EA Sports UFC 3 Review: Not Yet a Knockout, But The Best UFC Yet

The task of emulating the complexity of Mixed Martial Arts in video game form is not an easy one, and for the most part, the first two EA Sports UFC games have done a fairly admirable job of it. While it still has some substantial holes to fill in, UFC 3 is certainly the best game yet in the series, thanks to its fantastic overhaul of the striking system and the much improved, goal-oriented career mode. Its best moments, it's a combat sports game that truly captures the excitement and depth of an MMA fight. However, the sleazy, microtransaction-infested Ultimate Team mode casts a dark shadow over it.

UFC 3's biggest change to its usually exciting fights is the complete reworking of its striking system. Previous games adopted a Fight Night-style approach of using parries and counters, which always felt a bit out of place in an MMA fight. In UFC 3 there are no parries, but that doesn't mean there are no counters. You can now freely sway with the right stick to dodge and duck under punches and throw any punch or kick while moving – a combination that leads to a dynamic striking system that feels much closer to how actual fights in the UFC play out.

A New Map And Jason Have Been Added to Friday The 13th

Friday The 13th: The Game has had its fair share of tweaks and bugs, but developer IllFonic's latest update should go some way to smoothing things out by giving Jason a much needed - if modest - buff. A new map and a new Jason have also been added.

This week's patch notes cover the new content, that includes Jason Part 5 from the fifth movie, and the Pinehurst map. Jason Part 5 doesn't have any level requirements, and both he and the new map will be available in multiplayer and offline with bots.

Jason Part 5 will also have access to three grab kills: Hedge Trimmer, Last Breath, and You're So Vein. A new grab kill called Rugby Player has been added to the mix too, and you can unlock it at level 108 for 2500 CP.

Which Wasp Is Which in the Ant-Man Movies?

Marvel Comics fans may already be familiar with the Wasp, but this heroine is finally headlining her own MCU movie thanks to Ant-Man and the Wasp. No longer will Hope Van Dyne play second fiddle to a goofball like Scott Lang!

To help prepare you for this new Marvel movie, we're breaking down everything you need to know about The Wasp's comic book background and the difference between original Wasp Janet Van Dyne and her successor Hope Van Dyne.

Avengers don't come with stronger bona fides than the Wasp. She was one of the five original founding members of the team, and she's been a fairly consistent presence in Earth's Mightiest Heroes ever since. Janet Van Dyne's powers not only make her an asset in the field, but her years of experience also make her a role model to younger generations of heroes. And despite some fairly dark periods in her personal life and even a spell where the world believed her to be dead, Janet has never lost that heroic spark.

Soul Calibur 6 Hands-On: 'We Cut Off Bits of Each Other's Clothes and Both Started the Final Round Half-Naked...'

Twenty years after the first Soul Calibur, the visual improvements in Soul Calibur 6 are obvious, but the presentation stays true to the series' arcade-like roots. While preserving a tension akin to real sword fighting, SC6's atmosphere is over the top and fantastical. As masters of their respective weapons, each character can pull off techniques based on the real thing, yet they possess a level of physical prowess only possible in games. Flashy moves are executed with simple commands, and before you know it your character's blade will be engulfed in colorful flames. Parry an attack, and Calibur creates tension by going into a very brief slow-motion sequence. Compared to 2017's For Honor, which took a more realistic approach to sword fighting, Soul Calibur VI's arcade-like presentation feels nostalgic yet refreshing at the same time.

Why You Should Care About The World Ends With You

In the late '00s, Nintendo's ridiculously-popular DS handheld was a hotbed for creative, quirky games. Many developers were gleefully experimenting with the system's trademark dual-screens, and it was in the middle of this zeitgeist that Square-Enix took a chance on a unique action-RPG titled The World Ends With You. Developed by Jupiter (and inspired by their previous Square-Enix title, Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories), The World Ends With You was released in 2007 to critical acclaim, strong sales, and quickly became one of the DS's most beloved games.

And yet 10 years later, it still hasn't received a sequel. Other than a mobile port and a small cameo in Kingdom Hearts, the series has gone dark, and many fans feared Square may have forgotten it completely. That is, until it resurfaced in the most recent Nintendo Direct, where it was announced the game would be getting another shot on the Nintendo Switch. Titled Final Remix, this new version will contain new content and be the first time the game has appeared on the big screen. Fans were elated not only for ourselves, but also because this will likely be the best way for new players to experience the game.

Looking Back at the Hearthstone World Championship: 5 Next Level Plays

The recent Hearthstone World Championship finals in Amsterdam saw the top 16 players in the world fight it out over four days of competition. Gorogoa Review

I've never played a puzzle game quite like Gorogoa. It's quiet and reflective: four drag-and-droppable panels act as small windows into a beautiful and dreamlike hand-drawn universe. But as you scroll, stack, layer, and zoom in or out of each scene, you get the feeling that the world inside each box is too vast and magical to be contained. Even the most static scenes burst with life, and when rearranged create new dynamics that reveal a fascinating dual nature (mysterious, sad, and even a little frightening) as panels merge together in exciting and satisfying ways. This fleeting tale takes about one to two hours to complete, but its absorbing and ambiguous story — an elegant exploration of spirituality in its most beautiful and destructive forms — will stay with you for a long time after.

Respawn's Star Wars Game Could Come by March 2020

Though EA hasn't announced definitive plans for the future of its Star Wars games and their releases, the company's executives offered some idea of when players might expect Respawn's upcoming action game, as well as the next Star Wars Battlefront sequel.

Speaking during today's EA Q3 2018 earnings call, EA's CEO Andrew Wilson and CFO Blake Jorgensen discussed the future of the company's Star Wars games. Specifically in regard to Respawn's already announced Star Wars game, Jorgensen said, while EA has "not announced our products for fiscal

yet," Respawn's title "most likely will drop in Fiscal 20 versus another

Battlefront."

Fiscal years are offset from the calendar year. Fiscal Year 2020 would not kick in until April 1, 2019, with an end on March 31, 2020. That fiscal year would be the timeframe EA is projecting, though not necessarily defining as exactly when Respawn's Star Wars title may be released.

Star Wars Battlefront II Misses Sales Expectations

While it's reportedly expected between 1 and 3 million more units will sell by the end of fiscal 2018, these sales still put the sequel behind its predecessor, which had hit 14 million by the end of fiscal 2016 (March 31, 2016) after a late 2015 release.

Taipei Game Show 2018 in a Few Words and Lots of Pictures

While Taipei Game Show is a physically smaller show than E3 or Tokyo Game Show, its attendance – 350,000 punters and 2,400 trade visitors during the five days 25-29 January – is a reminder that gamers in the small but important market of Taiwan are hungry for new things to play.

Indeed, a 2015 Google report cited in The Taipei Times reports that 66 percent of the population play games for at least 30 minutes a day, with an almost even balance between male and female gamers. Mobile devices are ubiquitous in Taiwan, and 92 percent of gamers in the Google survey said they have played mobile games. Still, console games are a growing chunk of the market, and according to a recent NewZoo report, one-quarter of Taiwanese gamers are playing on all three platforms – PC, console and mobile. That means there are lots of hardcore gamers in Taiwan.

Taiwanese Games at Taipei Game Show 2018

Most of the biggest games at Taipei Game Show 2018 came from Japan, China, Hong Kong or the West, but a selection of homegrown indie titles and arcade games showed that innovation is strong among smaller developers in Taiwan. Here's a roundup of some of the great local games I played during my visit.

Already available on Steam Early Access, Fight of Gods is a 2D fighting game where all of the cast are real-world deities or mythological figures. While the idea of a violent face-off between Jesus and Buddha is obviously grossly inappropriate, the game is not being sold on shock value alone. For one thing, as a fighting game it is pretty robust, and each character comes with a rich variety of animations. I played as Santa (not strictly a god, but certainly worshipped by many), who attacks by throwing gifts from his sack or piling into his opponent with a reindeer-driven sleigh as a special move. Also, the developers insist that they hope the game's roster will inspire players to learn about deities from other cultures. A sick cash-grab or something deeper? Check it out on Steam and decide for yourself.

Shadow of the Colossus For PS4 Review: Still One of The Best PlayStation Games EVer

Shadow of the Colossus for PlayStation 4 is a stunning return to the classic that first wowed us on the PlayStation 2 in 2005. With completely redone art and spectacular lighting, it expertly captures the original's unique beauty, awe-inspiring scope, and absolutely heartbreaking story while simultaneously fixing a handful of imperfections. The result is not only an incredible remaster, but one of the best and most beautiful games the PS4 has to offer.

Part of Shadow of the Colossus' enduring legacy is in its relatively simplistic design. You explore the vast, gorgeous world in search of 16 unique, terrifying, and awe-inspiring beasts. These range from humanoid giants to airborne birds and massive underwater hydras. Though it's never actually explained, your motivation is clear: slay them in order to restore life to a comatose woman who is clearly important to you. But while this premise is simple, the act of embarking on this six to eight-hour quest is remarkable.

Blizzard Details New Hearthstone Balancing Changes

Blizzard has announced new balance changes coming to Hearthstone in the 10.2 update.

In a blog post, Blizzard detailed a series of nerfs coming to several popular cards when the update hits next month.

Bonemare will see a nerf with a mana increase from 7 to 8 allowing players access to more expensive counters. Additionally, the Corridor Creeper card will have its attack dropped from 5 to 2, reducing its swing power when held early in a game.

The Charge ability will be removed from Patches the Pirate, which Blizzard believes will see fewer decks adding arbitrary pirates to take advantage of his chaining ability. Also, Raza the Chained's Battlecry will go from reducing Hero Power cost from 0 to 1 to reduce its effectiveness for Wild games and Standard matches when played with Shadowreaper Anduin.

15 Games Every Dark Souls Fan Should Play

But if you've accepted the "end" of the series and are looking for something to fill the void, there are a ton of great games out now (and some exciting ones on the horizon) that every Dark Souls fan should check out. Some feature satisfying, precision-based combat systems while others prioritize RPG skilltrees and upgrades — each has some intricate, mystery-laden tale to tell and, sometimes, huge, mysterious worlds ripe for exploration. But each one brings something new to the format too. There's something here for everyone.

17 Non-Final-Fantasy Characters We Demand to See in the Next Dissidia

Dissidia Final Fantasy NT, the latest chapter of Square Enix's arena-fighting-RPG hybrid series, arrives this week. At this point, though, we've already seen most of the tricks Dissidia has up its sleeves — it keeps recycling the same Final Fantasy heroes and concepts. In our opinion, it's time for them to mix things up a little.

After all, Square Enix has a deep bench of game franchises to draw from. There's more to life than Final Fantasy! There's Dragon Quest, and Chrono Trigger, and Tomb Raider, and… well, honestly, the company has more than enough properties to draw on that taking the Smash Bros. approach to Dissidia could make for a pretty wild ride. And a weird one, too.

"When we originally started to develop this title, the Switch wasn't announced at that time, and so we started developing for the PlayStation platforms," Oyamada explained. "With that said, after announcing this, there has been quite a bit of demand for the Switch version. So, we are taking in that feedback, and if there is large demand for it we'd like to see what we can potentially do. But no plans as of yet."

Subnautica Review

There are certain moments in my gaming past I'd love to somehow wipe from my brain just so I could experience them again, fresh and unspoiled. From the shallow, murky kelp forests to the surreal, alien shark-infested expanse of the underwater islands, the surprises never seemed to cease as I pushed to explore further and deeper. Along the way, I discovered the foreboding, Ridley Scott-esque wreck of the ship that brought you here to explore… and a couple other surprising detours I don't want to spoil.
