A New Patch Reportedly Makes Silent Hills P.T. Unplayable on Your PS4 Even If It's Installed

A report of a new patch rendering P.T. unplayable, even if the game is already installed on your PlayStation 4, is circulating the internet.

A Reddit post from user PopulusTrichocapra was posted on r/SilentHill a few days ago, claiming that they couldn't access P.T. (the "Playable Teaser" for the unreleased Silent Hills game) on their PS4 with an accompanying screenshot of the locked game. The picture shows that this is version 1.01 of P.T., that the latest update occurred on October 22, 2018, and that the application is ineligible to start up.

Diablo 3 on Switch May Have Outed an Unannounced Amiibo

Diablo 3: Eternal Collection on Nintendo Switch reveals a currently unannounced amiibo early in a tutorial pop-up.

Early in the game, a "Use Amiibo" prompt shows a picture of a Treasure Goblin amiibo, which has not yet been revealed by Blizzard or Nintendo.

The Treasure Goblin amiibo bears a striking resemblance to an already released Cute But Deadly figurine. Since the Amiibo hasn't been revealed, we're unsure what rewards you'll get for using it in the game for now.

Combined NES and SNES Classic Sales Surpass 10 Million Units

The NES Classic Edition and Super NES Classic Edition retro consoles have sold over 10 million combined units, and approximately 50 million Amiibo figures have been sold.

According to a newly released Nintendo financial results briefing, "Combined global sales of the NES Classic Edition and the Super NES Classic Edition have now surpassed 10 million units... both continue to sell as must-have products, and the fact that they are so affordable suggests that they will be in even greater demand during the holiday season."

The phrasing doesn't give much of a hint on whether or not Nintendo plans on releasing an N64 Classic Edition this year, though it's possible we could receive news about this in tomorrow morning's Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Nintendo Direct, or more likely in the following Nintendo Treehouse: Live Presentation. Rumors about a potential N64 Classic Edition ramped up when Nintendo filed a related trademark earlier this year.

PlayStation Plus Free Games for November 2018 Announced

Sony has revealed the free games PlayStation Plus subscribers will receive in November 2018, with Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition and Yakuza Kiwami leading the charge as the free PlayStation 4 games for the month..

Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition is a remastered version of the over-the-top first-person shooter from People Can Fly and Epic Games, with 4K support on PS4 Pro. All previous pieces of DLC are included in the Full Clip Edition, as well. In our Bulletstorm: Full Clip review, we appreciated the visual boost but found the additional content to be underwhelming.

Yakuza Kiwami, meanwhile, is a remake of the original Yakuza, built from the ground-up using a more recent engine. IGN's Yakuza Kiwami review saw it as a great way to experience the first story in the series, though it couldn't match the most recent mainline Yakuza games. Sega has given fans no shortage of choice as of late, with Yakuza 6, Yakuza 0, and Yakuza Kiwami 2 all coming to the West within the last few years.

As various Undertale fans have pointed out online, Delta Rune is an anagram for Undertale and refers to the symbol on Undertale NPC Toriel's tunic.

Delta Rune's website contains several warnings in English and Japanese about things like overriding security protocols and refraining from discussing "the program" for 24 hours in the interest of public safety.

The site says these warnings are the final ones players will receive before encouraging them to take things into their hands and allowing them to download Delta Rune for PC or Mac.

Fortnite Downloaded on 'Nearly Half of All Nintendo Switch Systems Worldwide'

Nintendo has announced that Fortnite has been downloaded on "nearly half of all Nintendo Switch systems worldwide" since its launch in June of this year.

Referencing a previous Nintendo earnings report in which it was stated that the Nintendo Switch console sales have reached almost 23 million units, Fortnite would have been downloaded on 11.5 million of those that are currently in the wild.

This attach rate brings to mind The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which in its first 28 days sold 925,000 units for the Nintendo Switch, while the Nintendo Switch had sold 906,000.

Call of Cthulhu Review

It doesn't take long for Call of Cthulhu's dark and intriguing detective story to rapidly spiral down the well of occult madness. Inspired by the legendary Chaosium RPG of the same name, it tells its Lovecraftian tale with writing so strong that I couldn't help but get sucked into the immersive atmosphere it created. The story itself can be confusing in spots, and some rougher mechanics and levels do rear up occasionally, but Call of Cthulhu still delivers what is perhaps one of the finest cosmic horror experiences in modern gaming.

The hero of this story is Edward Pierce, a grizzled veteran and alcoholic PI who acts mostly as a blank slate for you to experience the story through. There really isn't much to the character beyond the many choices you make for him, shaped by which skills you choose to upgrade. In the beginning, I found Pierce's somewhat wooden portrayal a little jarring, but as I made him my own by focusing heavily in the stats that intrigued me most – like Investigation and Eloquence – and then leaned on those skills in my conversations and investigations, I rapidly became invested in his tortured tale.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Players Reporting HDR Issues

It appears that the High Dynamic Range (HDR) implementation in Red Dead Redemption 2 may not be not true HDR.

According to Eurogamer, the video output of all versions of the game is derived from a Standard Dynamic Range (SDR) image, and therefore is not rendered in high dynamic range. Generally speaking, an SDR image doesn't offer nearly as much contrast, color range or luminance as an HDR image, and Eurogamer claims that all of the limitations present in SDR are simply packaged in what the game is presenting as HDR.

Ultimately, Eurogamer says using HDR at recommended settings produces an image similar to what you get with HDR turned off, or it can even make the game look incredibly dim or overly bright if settings are tweaked in either direction.

Breach Blends All Your Favorite Game Genres with Mythology

Breach is a potent mixture of the last decade of game design. Like something engineered in an off-the-grid laboratory, its a multi-headed creation spliced together with DNA from hack-and-slash action games, hero shooters, MOBAs, and MMOs. It's currently growing and coming into its own, boiling down that blend into a jump-in-and-play experience of quick 15-minute solo, cooperative, or competitive matches.

After getting hands-on with a healthy section of the technical alpha, what surprises me most about Breach is how well that insane-sounding concoction works. You pick a class – complete with its own basic attacks, skill shots, and abilities – and fight through a series of maps that are broken into six sectors. Each sector has an objective, so you and up to three other players fight to complete the objective in the allotted time while the enemy team of monsters, minions, mythological nightmares, and in some modes player-controlled demons tries to delay or stop you.

Diablo 3 for Nintendo Switch Review

Not every six-year-old game can feel fresh and modern on a new platform, especially after you take off the 'Ohmigosh it's on Switch so I can take it anywhere!' goggles. This is my third trip through Diablo 3 since its original release on PC in 2012 and expansion pack-fueled debut on Xbox One in 2014, and I have to say: it still plays wonderfully. That's not a huge surprise. What is an unexpected delight is how good Diablo 3 looks on Nintendo's portable console.

The Diablo 3 Eternal Collection doesn't really offer anything new apart from a Ganondorf armor set, but it does offer everything: the Reaper of Souls expansion that makes you forget about the weak fourth Act, a seventh playable character in the form of the sadistic Necromancer, and every single update and tweak that's helped Diablo 3 realize its full, enormous potential. It is Diablo 3 in its final form, and it's simply a blast. Often literally, thanks to the explosive deaths that monsters suffer at your mighty hands. And it looks better than I expected it to, with image quality that suits the Switch's built-in 720p screen perfectly. When you're on a 65-inch 4K TV (running in Diablo's maximum 960p resolution), only the character detail suffers a bit. The environments still look great!

Nintendo President Wants More DLC For Existing 'Big Titles'

Final Fantasy 8's Train Heist Is Its Most Underrated Moment

Final Fantasy VIII was a divisive entry in the beloved franchise when it released in 1999. For many, things like the junction and draw systems felt like too much of a departure from previous games, and an out-of-left-field plot twist near the end left a lot of fans scratching their heads.

These days, Final Fantasy VIII is remembered a little more fondly, if not necessarily as a masterpiece. One reason why is the world; it feels slightly more grounded than the high sci-fi and fantasy settings of previous games. There's nothing wrong with FFVII's Gaia or FFVI's World of Balance, it's just that they were occupied by fantasy archetypes and threatened by otherworldly beings that are hardly relatable to us as players.

THQ Nordic Bought My Teenage Years – So What Are They Going to Do With Them?

In 2002, I was 13, and I spent as much of my time as possible playing TimeSplitters 2. Six years later, I spent a sizeable portion of my 19th year in the extremely purple company of Saints Row 2.

Between those two fairly formative experiences, I invented my own game modes with my brother in Red Faction 2. I had my mind blown by blowing up minds in Second Sight. Adult pangs of nostalgia already setting in, I rented Stuntman: Ignition to recall its PS2 predecessor. Friends introduced me to Destroy All Humans, and Painkiller. I'm also fairly sure I played doomed racing sim Juiced but, looking at it now, god knows why I would have chosen to.

Aside from the fact that I played them at some point, there's little to connect these games. That list represents different genres, developers, publishers, levels of quality. Some games I can remember as well as the alphabet, others I'd forgotten about until looking them up for this piece. Now, 16 years after I lost myself to TimeSplitters 2, they're all connected – because THQ Nordic bought them.

Fallout 76 on Switch 'Wasn't Doable', Says Bethesda

Bethesda has explained that Fallout 76 couldn't come to Nintendo Switch because, after consideration, "it just wasn't doable".

"The Switch is something I can say with certainty that... it's a part of every conversation with every dev we have now about what we're doing going forward, because we consider it to be a viable platform. If the game will work on it, we want it to be on every platform possible. Fallout 76 is not because it just wasn't doable."

No detail was given as to exactly what wasn't doable about a Switch version, but the always-online nature of the game and absolutely gigantic world probably had something to do with it.

Top 25 Nintendo Switch Games

The Nintendo Switch has been out for a year and a half and in that short time, dozens of awesome games have hit Nintendo's hybrid console.

We did the homework and put together a list of our 25 favorites.

Let's go!

25. Blossom Tales

Blossom Tales feels right at home on the Nintendo Switch. The game has no shame in how much it actually borrows from The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, and that's in no way bad thing. It may be a short game, but the moment to moment gameplay brings a ton of nostalgia and satisfies the craving to play something so familiar yet adds new challenges along the way.

Vampyr Coming to Nintendo Switch

Vampyr, the gothic action role-playing game released for the PC, PS4 and Xbox One earlier this year, is officially coming to the Nintendo Switch.

Revealed through a Focus Home Interactive earnings report, it looks like the success of Vampyr on its current platforms has given the publisher reason to bring Dontnod's title to Nintendo's handheld/console hybrid.

"In Q3, the Group will continue to maximise the potential of the Vampyr license," the report notes. "After the game's impressive success on PC, Xbox One and PS4, it will be Nintendo Switch's turn to welcome the DontNod title to reach an even wider audience." The report doesn't clarify if Q3 is in regards to 2018 or 2019, though a fiscal third quarter typically ends in September, so 2019 is a likely bet.

MediEvil PS4 Is a Remake, Not a Remaster

Sony Worldwide Studios chairman Shawn Layden has described the PS4 version of MediEvil as a remake, not a remaster - despite the game being originally advertised using the latter term.

Appearing on PlayStation Blogcast, Layden explained the approach for this new version of the fondly-remembered PS1 game:

"I think there have been some words that might sound alike but mean different things – like remake and remaster. This is a remake. We've taken the original game design and we've taken a lot of the key art, some of the other attributes of the game design and ethos, if you will. And we're working with a developer called Other Ocean Interactive, and they are remaking MediEvil in that design – the original MediEvil from PS1. The one that I worked on when I was in Tokyo."

Marvel's Spider-Man (PS4) - The Heist DLC Review

The first post-game DLC episode for Marvel's Spider-Man, The Heist, is like the main game in miniature form — fantastic character work, coupled with engaging story missions and side objectives occasionally hampered by repetition. The Heist clearly serves as the first chapter of a larger story waiting to be told across Spider-Man's three-part DLC saga called The City That Never Sleeps, and so it feels a little light on its own. But when it works, it's a reminder of how great it is to inhabit this webhead's world.

The Heist DLC begins quite literally with its namesake — a heist that, on a gameplay level, kicks things off with what I loved most: methodical stealth scenarios. It's satisfying and easy to slink back into Spider-Man's move set, especially while tackling foes who pack quite a punch. From the first brawl, which inevitably breaks out in the DLC-opening museum scenario, it's clear these enemies are as strong as those in the later levels of the base adventure. It's nice to see Insomniac Games try to switch things up right from the start with an engaging new crowd control objective that forced me to focus on specific enemies while also taking on the larger horde.

The Best PS4 Games

If you're just now picking up a PlayStation 4 or PS4 Pro, you're in luck — there are a lot of fantastic games to play. So whether you're just buying a system, or have owned once since the 2013 launch and are looking to play the greatest hits, these are the best 25 games you can play, as ranked by a group of our biggest and most knowledgeable PS4 fans.

Review scores factored into compiling this list, but the ranking takes many more aspects into account. The ways these games take advantage of the PS4, the design risks they've taken, the unique experiences, the influence they've had on the industry, and more all played a role in helping us narrow down the system's wide library to just 25 games. (One caveat — we did not include PSVR games, as the intention of this list is to suggest what someone picking up just a PS4 or PS4 Pro console should play, and so we can't necessarily expect new buyers will have a PSVR setup.)

My Hero One's Justice Review

My Hero Academia is one of the best shonen anime currently airing, and it deserves a great video game that lives up to its reputation. While My Hero One's Justice unfortunately doesn't hit that high bar, it does a good job of adapting the action and spectacle of the anime into fighting game form. The gorgeous visuals and a flashy one-on-one combat system make it seem like a fan's dream fighting game, but the shiny exterior hides a fairly simplistic foundation, and once the spectacle of the action wears off, My Hero One's Justice feels less like All Might, and more like "just alright."

My Hero One's Justice is a 3D arena fighter with a combat system that could be best explained as an appropriately quirky version of Rock, Paper, Scissors. You have three main options when it comes to attacking up close: normal attacks, counter attacks, and unblockable attacks. Normals are fast enough to interrupt and beat unblockables, counters absorb normal attacks before delivering their own powerful strike, and unblockables crush through counters. There are some extra nuances of course, like just guards, dashes, and dash cancels, but that's the general overview of combat.

Our own Luke Reilly over in Australia has spent at least 60 hours with the game in preparation for our review, which will hit October 25, 4am PST. Though it'll be an early morning for us, we're excited to finally share our thoughts.

We were able to bring you our experiences of the first four hours with the game, where we came away impressed with the extensive level of detail in Rockstar's world. We hunted deer and stumbled on a broken-hearted boy that we decided to antagonize for some reason, but ultimately we could tell that we just scratched at the surface of the potential of this world in allowing us to interact with it in imaginative ways that in turn responded to us accordingly. We were at times devious and at times helpful. We pursued the main storyline, and yet took time to pursue one of the world's many distractions, too. And though the world in Red Dead Redemption 2 felt like a living organism in its own right, it also felt lonely and cruel at times. And even surprised us in many ways.

Dan Houser 'Thankful' Not to Be Releasing Grand Theft Auto 6 Right Now

Dan Houser has said he's "thankful" to be releasing Red Dead Redemption 2 and not GTA 6 this week, because the latter would be "out of date within two minutes".

In an extensive interview with GQ, the Rockstar co-founder discussed how his flagship franchise's tone doesn't quite mesh with the current cultural climate:

"It's really unclear what we would even do with

, let alone how upset people would get with whatever we did. Both intense liberal progression and intense conservatism are both very militant, and very angry. It is scary but it's also strange, and yet both of them seem occasionally to veer towards the absurd.

Fortnitemares Event Begins, Crossbow Returns, and Glider Changes in Latest Fortnite Patch

A brand new Fortnite patch released today is kicking off Fortnitemares, a limited time event where monsters spawn and wreak havoc in the battle royale mode.

The cube has made quite the journey since it first appeared last season and its latest move is releasing Cube Fragments onto the map. Cube Monsters will emerge from these fragments and killing them provides a chance at finding extra shield and loot. The small Cube fragments will spawn randomly on the map while the larger fragments can be found at corrupted zones.

To fight off the hoard of monsters are two new weapons. One is the modified return of the crossbow, now known as the Hunter Crossbow with 40 base damage unlimited ammo. The Six Shooter allows for increased fire rate when firing from the hip while aiming down the sight allows for more precision. The Hand Cannon got a few nerfs and the Rocket Launcher has a temporary visual upgrade with the Pumpkin Rocket Launcher.

Spider-Man Tops U.S. Game Sales for September

The September 2018 NPD results are in, and Marvel's Spider-Man for the PlayStation 4 was the month's best-selling game in the United States.

Though topping the month is impressive enough, NPD notes that it has quickly become the third best-selling game year-to-date across all platforms, behind fellow PS4 exclusive God of War at number two and Far Cry 5 at number one.

Spider-Man also netted the biggest launch month in dollar sales for any Playstation exclusive in history, and generated the highest dollar sales during its launch compared to any game this year, achieving launch sales that are 37 percent higher than the combined launch month sales of every other Spider-Man game released since the NPD began tracking game sales in 1995.

Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales Review

When something comes along that as thoroughly exceeds my expectations in so many areas as Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales, it reminds me why I got into video games in the first place. Far, far from a mere single player afterthought slapped onto a multiplayer collectible card game, CD Projekt Red has given us a sweeping, complex, emotional story with memorable characters, excellent voice acting, and varied, exciting card battles all along the way.

I was most blown away by the writing. Set just before the Witcher RPG trilogy during the Second Nilfgaard War, you take on the role of the dauntless, dynamic, many-layered Queen Meve of Lyria and Rivia. Every step of her journey is complicated by an overwhelming enemy, abundant political intrigue, and the kind of gut-twisting, no-right-answer moral choices the Witcher series has become known for. Are you willing to sacrifice your personal honor to preserve your basic, human decency? Are you willing to do what's best for your soldiers at the expense of a possibly instrumental alliance? This tale recognizes no distinction between good and evil – only tough, emotional, imperfect compromises that stuck with me hours after I'd made them.
