Biggest Pokemon Tournament Ever Breaks Record

The 2016 Pokemon U.S. National Championships took place this past weekend, July 1-3, in Columbus, OH and set a new record for the highest attendance for any Pokemon tournament to date.

The event held competitions for three different games -- the trading card game, the video game (Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire), and the new Pokken Tournament fighter -- but it was the TCG Masters Division that broke the record with a staggering 1110 players, eclipsing last year's estimated 900.

Nintendo Could Develop Physical Controllers for Mobile Devices

Nintendo has no current plans to create physical controllers for its mobile applications, but the company is considering it.

"Physical controllers for smart device applications are available in the market and it is possible that we may also develop something new by ourselves," Shinya Takahashi, Nintendo's general manager of entertainment planning and development, said during the Nintendo shareholders meeting.

However, Nintendo tends to look at games from a different point-of-view—and the company believes it's possible for Nintendo to create an action game for a smartphone that doesn't need a separate controller. According to Takahashi, it's "not impossible" to make such a game without a physical controller, and Nintendo will look into creating a game in that way, too.

Red Dead Redemption to Become Backward Compatible on Xbox One This Friday

Rockstar Games has announced that Red Dead Redemption will become officially backward compatible on the Xbox One this Friday, July 8.

Xbox 360 Red Dead owners will be able to play the game on Xbox One no matter the version of the game they owned — the original Red Dead Redemption, Undead Nightmare, or the Game of the Year edition — while those who didn't can purchase the game on Xbox One beginning Friday.

The 2010 game was leaked as a possible backward compatible title earlier this year. Access to the game was later removed, however, with Larry Hyrb noting that the game was made available for a brief window due to a testing error.

PES 2017 Release Date Announced

Like more or less every annual football game ever released, Pro Evolution Soccer 2017 will be released in September - September 13 in the North America and September 15 in the UK, to be exact.

The game will be available for a recommended price of $59.99 USD on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, or $39.99 USD for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.

Konami's press release states that "pre-order details have also been tentatively announced, where users can receive many bonus items for myClub, the number one mode in PES." Sadly it offers nothing more than that.

Your humble news writer here played an early version of the game recently, and found it to be very familiar, and very good.

Blizzard Working on Overwatch Competitive Disconnect Bug

Blizzard Entertainment is actively working to fix an Overwatch bug that causes players to disconnect from a game, only to reconnect moments later—but regardless of the game's outcome, the affected player still receives a loss or a decrease in skill rating.

In a post on the Battle.net forums, Overwatch game director Jeff Kaplan told fans fixes are coming this week... hopefully. Exact details on the fixes were not provided.

Overwatch's competitive mode rolled out on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 last week. There are already a bunch of changes in the pipeline for Overwatch's competitive mode, and Kaplan expects the game to continue to evolve as more data is gathered.

Report: Blizzard Suing Overwatch Cheat-maker

Blizzard has launched a lawsuit against a well-known Overwatch cheat-maker.

The cheat-maker specialises in creating monthly-subscription cheat services and bots on PC. The company's Overwatch offerings include a bot that plays the game for you, and a program which alters the in-game environment so the player has an unfair advantage over non-cheaters.

According to TorrentFreak, Blizzard argues the sale of such add-ons will not only cost them millions of dollars, but will also cause damage to the Overwatch community as a whole.

Rockstar's The Warriors is now Out for PS4

The Warriors - Rockstar's 2005 PS2 and Xbox brawler - has been released for PS4.

The game is available on the PS Store for £11.99/€14.99 (US and Australian prices are not available at time of writing).

It's very much a re-release, meaning it won't feature overhauled visuals or modern systems - but that's not to say it hasn't been brought up to date somewhat.

According to the game's PS Store listing, it features, "full 1080p up-rendering and enhanced features such as Trophies, Shareplay, Remote Play, Activity Feeds and Second Screen support for game manuals with PS Vita or PS App.

"This title has been converted from the original PS2 version to the PS4. There may be times where the the title plays differently from the PS2 version."
