Super Smash Bros. Ultimate: 7 Awesome Costume Origins

Smash Brothers digs deep into the celebrated lore of Nintendo. Half the fun of playing Smash is unearthing every reference, nod, and homage buried in the myriad stages and assist trophies. No opportunity to celebrate the legacy of the world's most beloved publisher is wasted, and there's even quite a bit of history contained in the costumes and colorations of the Smash Brothers characters. Here are seven stories behind some of the more interesting palette swaps and special outfits.

Dark Link

Dark Link's origins go waaaaay back to the oft-misunderstood NES masterpiece, Zelda II: The Adventure of Link. I still remember being a little kid and defeating the huge "final" boss at the end of the epically-difficult Great Palace and heading outside to claim the Triforce, only to be attacked by my own shadow! Since that first appearance as the big bad, Dark Link has evolved into a staple of Zelda storytelling, from a mysterious opponent in Ocarina's Water Temple to a fever-dream nightmare in Twilight Princess.

Upcoming PC Games Confirmed for 2019

Every year is a great year for PC gaming, but 2019's list is already an impressive one. With more and more games making their way to PC, here's a look at the biggest upcoming games we know are almost certainly coming in 2019:

Anthem

Release Date: February 22

Bioware's mech-suit shared world RPG will jet boost its way into our houses at the start of the year. It's basically a PvE shooter where everyone is in a customizable Iron Man suit flying around an alien world, which is about a good a pitch as I can think of.

Project CARS Studio Developing Its Own Standalone Console

Slightly Mad Studios, best known for its Project CARS racing games, is developing its own standalone game console for release in "around three years."

The console, currently referred to as the Mad Box, was announced by Slightly Mad Studios CEO Ian Bell on Twitter. As reported by Variety, Bell said it will "support most major VR headsets and those upcoming in the specs will be equivalent to a 'very fast PC 2 years from now.' We're in early talks with manufacturers of components so we can't say much more right now other than we have the designs specced out in detail."

31 Big Xbox One Games Coming in 2019

It's no secret the Xbox One had a slim year in exclusives, but highlights like Sea of Thieves, State of Decay 2, Forza Horizon 4, and several ID@Xbox gems like Below helped fill out the Xbox family stable. With 2019 upon us, and Microsoft's newly acquired studios hard at work, let's look forward to what we know is coming to our Xbox Ones, Xs, and Ss.

While we know games like Tunic and Halo Infinite could potentially arrive this year, we don't know for certain and aren't including those could-be games right now. But, it's going to be a long year with plenty of surprises in store, so expect this list to look radically different after E3 2019. Dark Souls Studio Working on 2 Unannounced Games

Dark Souls developer From Software has two unannounced games currently in development, according to studio president Hidetaka Miyazaki.

Speaking with 4Gamer (via Gematsu), Miyazaki teased both games are "

-esque," adding the studio needs "a little more time" before it discusses any further details.

While those two games remain mysteries, we know the studio's next release will be Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, which comes to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on March 22. Published by Activision, the action-adventure takes players back to a fantastical reimagining of 1500s Japan during the Sengoku period.
