Pokemon Company Interested in More Remakes

Pokemon series producer Junichi Masuda says the Pokemon Company is interested in more remakes of older Pokemon games.

"I think the remakes, like Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen, is still an approach we're interested in," Masuda told IGN. "With the Virtual Console releases of the original games, specifically there had never been a way to bring those Pokemon over to the latest generation. It had always been that you couldn't get those Pokemon out."

Masuda explained that services like Pokemon Bank and the Poke Transporter finally gave the developers an option to release the original versions on Virtual Console, essentially letting people upload first generation into the new game.

COD: Infinite Warfare Changes Outlined After Two Betas

Developer Infinity Ward will make changes to Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare thanks to feedback and testing from the game's two betas.

Some of these changes include weapon balancing, perk fixes, matchmaking adjustments, and more, according to a post on the game's subreddit.

Matchmaking fixes have been implemented to shorten matching times. Some of these changes include player evaluation being relaxed and a fix to geographic categorization.

In terms of balancing, shotguns will be getting increases in consistency of damage and longer range damage, as well as a slightly increased one-shot kill range. For the sniper class, players will now flinch more when getting shot, aim assist won't kick in "until the optic fully reaches the player's eye," and the bonus of the Quickdraw attachment has been reduced.

Why the Switch Is Nintendo’s Make-or-Break Console

As a lifelong Nintendo fan – heck, Nintendo games are the reason I started gaming in the first place – I desperately wanted to be excited about the Nintendo Switch. After being thoroughly unfazed by the Wii U, I was delighted by the Switch's impressive debut video, which showcased AAA-level software and a clear message about what the new machine is capable of. I'll be preordering, and I hope it succeeds. That being said, I believe the Switch is the make-or-break console for Nintendo as a hardware manufacturer.

In golf terms, Nintendo is out of mulligans.

The historic game company has always marched to the beat of its own drum, and that iconoclastic attitude has long served it well, from the DS and 3DS to the Wii. And while Nintendo continues to sit on a Scrooge McDuck-like silo filled with metaphorical gold, the pile isn't quite as high as it once was. The Wii fell off a cliff after its incredible run out of the gate. In recent years, the Wii U has struggled in all respects, and the company is no longer immune to market forces.

What’s the Japanese Indie Scene Like?

The growth of the indie scene, and the importance of indie games, has been one of the defining facets of the games industry over the last ten years. The explosion of digital distribution, a raft of new platforms (hello Steam, hello App Store!) and a lowering of the general barrier to entry for making games have all been factors, and it's made for some exciting – and entirely novel – gaming experiences.

When I think about my favourite indie games, however, very few of them are Japanese. I think about games like Braid, The Stanley Parable, Journey, Fez, Rogue Legacy and Papers, Please… and they're just the tip of an absolutely enormous iceberg. When I think about Japanese indies, on the other hand, far fewer games come to mind.

A Response to Bethesda's Review Copies Policy

On Tuesday, Bethesda Softworks – publisher of popular game series The Elder Scrolls and Fallout, as well as renowned games like Wolfenstein, Doom, and Dishonored – announced it would no longer provide reviewers access to its unreleased games until 24 hours before launch. It's a policy that upends decades of gamers being able to rely on impartial critics to provide them an idea of a game's quality when it goes on sale.We think this policy is damaging – for informed gamers, for games criticism in general, and even for Bethesda.

Obviously, Bethesda's games are its property to do with as it pleases, and there is certainly nothing requiring them to be submitted for review. However, there is a reason providing early access to critics has been the standard practice in the games industry (as well as film, books, etc) since the very beginning: It's a show of good faith. Allowing independent critics to evaluate a product and recommend it accordingly is a courtesy to consumers, and a demonstration that publishers and developers have confidence in the thing they're asking you to spend money on and in the review process.

Titanfall 2 Final Review

When Respawn Entertainment first showed off its concept for Titanfall and hinted at a single- and multiplayer first-person shooter full of acrobatic action and towering robot warriors that could rival Call of Duty, Titanfall 2 is the game that I wanted to play. Respawn has doubled down on its compelling formula of breakneck movement and grandiose scale, tapping the vein of those literal and figurative explosive moments that we brag about afterwards. And this time around, the first game's lacking single-player component has been addressed with admirable results, offering an engaging trek through a universe that was begging to be fleshed out.

Titanfall 2's campaign is the tale of rifleman Jack Cooper, who's unexpectedly given the reins of Vanguard-class titan BT-7274 (AKA "BT") when the two are stranded on the planet Typhon after their starship was brought down in an ambush by the evil mega-corp IMC. Their pairing is a good one, if somewhat predictable, with both characters playing off one another in the fashion of their archetypes. BT's artificial intelligence personality is dry, logical, and ready to misunderstand Jack's human colloquialisms and turns-of-phrase for slight comedic effect, while Jack is the relatable everyman grunt who knows next to nothing about being a pilot, much less a hero. Though their dynamic doesn't quite reach the level of witty buddy-comedy quips and playful banter that some of the dialogue options strive for, what does come across is a genuine mutual respect and, in time, caring that these two find for one another.

The unique and ambitious concept of the Xenoverse series really sets it apart from the rank and file of licensed anime games. It's a three-dimensional arena brawler seated within an MMO-lite structure, which provides both the immediate fun of DBZs big battles and a broader experience of being a new Dragon Ball character that inhabits the same universe and grows gradually in power over time, just like the franchise's greatest heroes.

Nintendo's Mysterious 3DS Game Is Coming to Japan in 2016

Nintendo has a new game coming out in Japan this holiday called Miitopia, and the Japanese video game maker hasn't spilled many details explaining what this new game is.

It will be sold as a retail game and as a digital download on the 3DS eShop. No other specifics were offered at the time.

Over 55 days later, Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima reminded investors the game was coming during a financial results meeting in Japan yesterday. This Pokemon Evolutions Fan Film is Amazing

John Wikstrom seems to have a strong future developing fun shorts around video games he loved growing up, or retelling touching stories about gamers from around the net. This time he's put his sights on Pokemon and because of those childhood memories we've all been given a treat in the form of his Pokemon: Evolutions short. You can watch it below.

While it does look like it's almost an official Nintendo trailer for the game it was actually produced by fan Wikstrom and his cast of almost 20 supporters to make the short possible. When sending us the short, John said "I went in the opposite direction that Nintendo has been going in -- instead of talking about what's new, I focused on what it was like to grow up with the franchise, and what it felt like when you first played." I don't know about what you guys think, but I think he captured it beautifully.

Nintendo Switch Has a 720p Touchscreen, Says Report

The Nintendo Switch screen will be 6.2" in size, 720p and, for the first time on a Nintendo console, feature a capacitive multi-touch input.

So say Eurogamer's sources, who previously correctly revealed the nature of the Switch as home/handheld console hybrid with detachable controllers and a TV dock well in advance of the official trailer.

Previous Nintendo touchscreens have all been single-touch resistive touchscreens, but this would bring the Switch more in line with modern tablets and phones.

A major point of contention here is that such a move would potentially fragment the games that could be played on the move from those played using the Switch in its TV dock. However, Eurogamer also reports that the right Joy-Con controller (the detachable controls on the side of the screen) features an infrared sensor, which could be used as a pointer on the TV (communicating with a sensor in the dock).

Miitomo Update Includes Messaging, Facial Expressions

A significant update is coming to Miitomo, Nintendo has announced.

With Miitomo closing in on 15 million unique users worldwide, Nintendo is planning a major update designed to make "communication with your friends even more fun." This includes a direct messaging system that utilises the Mii character's facial expressions and voice to play out messages, and "additional features" – although Nintendo didn't disclose what those features may be.

One area Nintendo did comment on is how Miitomo will tie into the forthcoming Super Mario Run.

"Another main goal of Miitomo has been to let consumers connect with their friends," says Nintendo. "We are making preparations to allow friend relationships from Miitomo to be carried over to Super Mario Run. Since Super Mario Run has a mode where you can compete with other players, this means that active communication with your family and friends in Miitomo will lead to even more fun moments in Super Mario Run."

Nintendo Switch: The Major Unanswered Questions

It's amazing how much information can be revealed in a trailer only three minutes long. . . . well, maybe not everything. Because though we did learn a lot about the Switch through its first commercial, we've been left with plenty of unanswered questions in its wake. Let's turn our attention now to several of the biggest mysteries still surrounding the machine, and hope that solid answers arrive long before the system goes on sale next March.

Sid Meier's Civilization VI Review

Every game in the legendary, 25-year-old Sid Meier's Civilization 4X strategy series puts a new spin on the grand concept of taking a nation from a single nomadic tribe to a world-dominating superpower, one turn at a time. In that way Civilization VI looks familiar, but it's loaded with some very smart and bold improvements that give it new levels of depth. Once I get absorbed into a campaign it becomes so engrossing it's difficult to think about anything else.

Under its colorful, cartography-inspired art style and varied, stirring music that swells to accent what you're doing and in what era you're doing it, Civilization VI is crammed with an almost overwhelming number of systems. It's got trade, it's got religion, it's got espionage, it's got Great People, it's got archeology, it's got the kitchen sink. For the most part, that's awesome because there are so many chances to build out your nation in different ways to take advantage of opportunities on its randomly generated maps and pursue the different victory types, and it's all baked in at the ground level so that things like trade routes don't feel tacked on and optional (they are, in fact, the only way to build roads in the early game). This feels like a Civ game that's already had two expansions.

Clockwork Empires Review

The grass and rocks outside our humble settlement appear to be singing, and Enoch Coppercowl, my chief cook, doesn't care for it. I've sent out some of the new workers to clear the brush away in an attempt to quiet it, but they're taking their sweet time and poor Enoch just can't handle it. Right as he's lugging the first meat he's ever cooked over to the community stockpile, the madness takes him and he drops the meat and runs babbling into the woods.

And that's how it goes in Clockwork Empires. It's a colony-building simulation that's at its most interesting when the comfy clockwork of daily life gets jammed and things go almost literally to Hell. If it weren't so dull and cumbersome the rest of the time, I could lose myself in it for months.

Batman: The Telltale Series Episode 3: New World Order Review

Episode three of Telltale's Batman series focuses on intense, seemingly disastrous decisions. Even though it's become clear that we're more observing Bruce Wayne's story than having a meaningful impact on how it turns out, the tension is still real: all of the political and personal relationships introduced in the first two episodes and Bruce's once-prestigious public image seem as though they might shatter under one slightly under-calculated dialogue choice and the stress of this multi-faceted journey lasts the entire episode.

Especially for the most dedicated Batman fans, episode three - titled "New World Order" - continues and heightens the series' trend of offering unexpected new takes on well-known DC characters, offering unpredictable conflicts with brutal twists that had me feeling helpless to save everyone. Bruce Wayne's professional relationships and friendships alike are challenged and tested in ways that are relatable, too, with writing that successfully and subtly elaborates on character traits and motives with each interaction, adding layer upon layer of consequence.

World of Final Fantasy Review

For the past several years, Square Enix has released a landslide of Final Fantasy spin-offs with varying success: toe-tapping rhythm adventures, adrenaline-fueled fighters, and some forgettable mobile titles. Adding to the list is the cute-as-can-be World of Final Fantasy, a warm and fuzzy blend of nostalgic turn-based combat and monster stacking that had me alternately squealing with delight and sighing with boredom throughout the more than 60-hour campaign.

Let's cut right to the chase: this is the cutest Final Fantasy I've ever played, and I've played just about all of them. The vertically arranged world of Grymoire is filled to the brim with pixie-sized NPCs and cuddly, shrink-wrapped versions of Final Fantasy monsters like baby Behemoths and onsie-wearing Tonberries. Amplifying the sugary sweetness are Lann and Renn, an energetic pair of apple-cheeked twin heroes who spout pun-filled dialogue as they zigzag up and down a chain of floating islands collecting special monsters called Mirages. Their light-hearted banter imbues the increasingly bizarre story about a time divergence that could either save or doom the world with some much-needed humor. Silly 2D animation interspersed with quirky CGI cutscenes are also a welcome bit of fun. If nothing else, World of Final Fantasy has oodles of charm.

Rigs: Mechanized Combat League Review

Rigs: Mechanized Combat League delivers the exciting promise of big mech suits playing sports despite some stiff animations and rough visuals. The immersion can be a little too intense for some, but Rigs still manages to use VR in a smart way - making aiming and movement in its multi-tiered maps feel fluid. Ultimately, it successfully made me feel like a superstar cyber athlete even though I was sitting on the couch the whole time. But if you want to play competitively in online matches against other humans, the slow matchmaking and long load times might erode your interest.

Simple controls make Rigs easy to pick up and play. The Dualshock handles most of the mech's movements and is a comfortable way for FPS veterans to jump, strafe, and start shooting their way through skirmishes. The only major adjustment you have to come to terms with is the PlayStation VR headset, which defaults to using your head like a right analog stick for looking and aiming. Rigs gives you the option to switch, and I preferred turning using the right stick since using my head to control the direction I was moving didn't feel natural at first. Even with the modified setup, I often felt the edges of the cockpit UI were in my way when I lined up some of my shots.

Where's IGN's Skyrim Special Edition Review?

Due to Bethesda's new policy of not providing advance review copies of its games until 24 hours ahead of launch, we will be unable to provide a review of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition when it comes out this Friday, October 28. We also expect this policy to apply to Bethesda's other upcoming game, Dishonored 2, which comes out on November 11.

In both cases we'll aim to have reviews done as soon as possible, but the difference between a review and a hot take is time. We have to spend some serious, quality hours going through a game to learn how it works and critique it, or to evaluate the quality of the remaster and make sure things work as advertised. We take that process seriously and intend to continue putting Bethesda's games through the same rigors as every other publisher.

In Tyranny, Fallout: New Vegas Devs Go Old-School

Fans of RPGs are always looking for games where choices really matter. For years, Obsidian has been at forefront of experimenting with player choice, with ambitious projects like Alpha Protocol and Fallout: New Vegas both filled with fascinating ideas but rushed execution. With Tyranny, Obsidian is going all-in on player choice.

Two things make Tyranny super well-suited for this kind of role-playing: 1) it's based on the Pillars of Eternity engine, and 2) you play as a villain. The Pillars engine was an intentional throwback to 1990s RPGs like Baldur's Gate, and it gives Tyranny a couple advantages. First, it's built around text. Tyranny is a video game for people who like to read, and the potential amount of text gives the game's writers and designers the space to add in-depth options, like spending an hour exhausting every single option in a party member's dialogue.

There Are Already 6 Times More Mods for Skyrim: Special Edition on Xbox One Than PS4

Despite not being released until this Friday, October 28, Bethesda is already accepting console mod submissions for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - Special Edition. But it's accepting far more on Xbox One than PS4.

At time of writing, looking at each platform's Bethesda.net listings (Xbox One here, PS4 here) reveals 65 mods for Xbox One and just 10 for PS4. All 10 of the PS4 mods are also available on Xbox One.

That discrepancy seems to come down to one important difference between Microsoft and Sony's tolerance for modding - Microsoft will allow external assets (user-created models that don't appear in the game) while Sony will not.

Hearthstone Teases Its Next Expansion

Blizzard appears to be teasing its next expansion for Hearthstone, following the Whispers of the Old Gods set, and the One Night in Karazhan adventure.

The Hearthstone Twitter account simply tweeted a postcard from Gadgetzan, World of Warcraft's neutral goblin trading post:

Coupled with the findings of a Reddit user, who discovered that Blizzard now owns the domain Gadgetzan.com, and the fact that Hearthstone has always followed an adventure with a new card expansion, it seems Gadgetzan could be our next stop.

Ubisoft Introduces Big Changes for The Division's Single Player

Ubisoft has introduced a huge number of tweaks, big and small, to its third-person shooter, The Division.

Update 1.4 - detailed on the official The Division website - introduces World Tiers "that controls the level of enemy NPCs encountered and the quality of the loot they drop". This will help players level up without necessarily venturing into the game's notoriously tough PvP territory, the Dark Zone, or taking on Incursions.

The new World Tiers are set at levels 30, 31, 32, or 22. Tier 1 drops gear score rewards 163, Tier 2, 182 (and also unlocks Incursions and Challenge difficulty), Tier 3 rewards 204, and the top Tier offers gear score rewards 229. Plus, there's now a chance any NPC will drop High End and Gear Set loot, and Weekly and Daily mission drops are more likely to match your current level.

The Harry Potter Universe's 17 Most Fantastic Beasts

In a land where centaurs thunder around enchanted forests, giant deer have magic trees growing out their heads and the preferred mode of travel involves hopping on the back of an undead flying horse, it is surprising (and unfortunate) that they have still not invented David Attenborough.

Deprived of his dulcet tones, the world of Harry Potter got Newt Scamander. A nervous, twitchy fellow who unleashes chaos upon New York after accidentally releasing a zoo's worth of magical creatures out of his suitcase.

In honour of this travesty, we've rounded up 17 of the most fantastic beasts we could find from the Harry Potter books, its movies, and the texts of Newt Scamander himself.

Dark Souls 3: Ashes of Ariandel Review

There's something for every Dark Souls 3 fan to enjoy in Ashes of Ariandel, the first of two planned DLC packs. There's a brand-new icy land to explore, new weapons, armor, and spells of almost every type that are sure to please no matter what skills your character favors. Exactly how long that enjoyment lasts, however, may depend on whether you enjoy fighting players over bosses.

In this expansion, you will journey to a land quite familiar to and yet altogether different from the Painted World of Ariamis of Dark Souls 1. Despite being able to access the new area early on, don't expect this new Painted World of Ariandel to pull any punches, even if you've already beaten the final boss of Dark Souls 3. Enemies here are both diverse and deadly, and able to deal incredible damage. More than ever, learning their attack patterns quickly is key to survival. The Millwood Knights – hulking, Viking-inspired men who wander the forests – are able to explode the ground around you with their unique weapons, and they hit like trucks. On the other hand, the wolves of Ariandel may not look imposing, but their ability to rally huge packs to their location with a howl will have you quickly beset on all sides.

Nintendo Switch Won't Play Physical 3DS or Wii U Games

Nintendo Switch won't be able to play your library of Wii U discs or 3DS cartridges, as Nintendo has confirmed that its upcoming console doesn't feature physical backwards compatibility.

When asked whether or not Switch can play physical Wii U or 3DS games, a representative from Nintendo responded to IGN with a simple "no."

With regard to whether or not the console will offer digital backwards compatibility, the rep said that Nintendo has "nothing to announce on this topic" and "will make additional announcements about the Nintendo Switch hardware later, before the launch of the product."

As far as whether or not screen on the console can be used as a secondary display, akin to how the Wii U GamePad can display a map while the game is running on the television, the rep confirmed that "Nintendo Switch is dedicated to deliver a single-screen experience." As such, players will only be able to play on either the television or console screen at any given time, not both simultaneously.

Top 10 Scariest Pokemon

Pokemon by their nature are supposed to be cute creatures that act as allies to their human trainers, but dig beneath the surface and there's a lot of darkness to the adorable pocket monsters.

In the spirit of Halloween, we put together the 10 most terrifying Pokemon based on the information provided in the games and TV show. Based on this list, children in the Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova and Kalos -- and likely Alola -- regions would do better running from these Pokemon than trying to catch them.

Kadabra is a powerful psychic Pokemon that was introduced back in Generation 1, but its origin story has evolved over the years. Despite the fact it is an evolution of Abra, the Pokedex entries in both Emerald and FireRed show that Kadabra actually has a much more human origin. Both of those entries say Kadabra was actually once a boy with psychic abilities, who then transformed into a Pokemon.

The Biggest Character You May Have Missed in The Red Dead Redemption 2 Trailer

The great character reveal in last week's Red Dead Redemption 2 trailer wasn't one of the seven masked figures thundering toward us during the dramatic climax, nor any of the townspeople hunching in the muddy streets of a ramshackle town.

Images like this lone rider emerging from over a ridge appeal to our common vocabulary of Western myths. Images like this lone rider emerging from over a ridge appeal to our common vocabulary of Western myths.

The West is the central, essential character, with its vibrant personality and complex traits revealed in every thoughtfully choreographed shot. Its harshness is meant to be felt in the ever-present breezes whipping the grass and the bite of cold coming down the mountain into the pale prairie sun, smelt in pine needles and rotting carcasses. Its kindness is reflected in the soft light of the rising sun as a rider crosses a plain, its wildness in the seeping contrast of mountain and plain across a lonesome valley.

A Fan iIs Making a 3D Open-World Sonic Game

YouTube user The Great Lange recently released gameplay footage for a 3D open-world Sonic game that he's been creating, called Sonic Utopia.

"Sonic Utopia is an experiment that not only tries to expand on Sonic gameplay in an intuitive way in 3D, but also aims to capture the best of Sonic's style and tie it together in a cohesive experience," a description of the game explains. "Nearly everything in this demo, from art to sound to the gameplay engine, was made from scratch."

Seen in the footage below, Sonic Utopia marries several different ideas the Sonic series has implemented over the years. Taking on the classic blocky worlds and character models of the early Genesis games — Sonic the Hedgehog 1, 2, 3, as well as Sonic and Knuckles — The Great Lange adds more contemporary gameplay mechanics such as free roaming and 3D combat, as seen in later Sonic titles, such as the Sonic Adventure series and Sonic Unleashed.

Watch Dogs 2 Wants You to Get Mad

Marcus had finally reached the computer where he could access his criminal record. Having snuck through a building and silently disposed of multiple guards using his home-brewed, non-lethal arsenal, here it was. A young African American man, Marcus had been flagged, profiled by the system for a crime he didn't commit. I, the player, am given control to delete his record, and replace Marcus' striking features with a pudgy, deer-in-headlights white guy.

Later, Marcus gets drunk at the beach and throws his phone in the water.

Watch Dogs 2 is a big, fun, AAA experience that feels, after five hours of play, as much a step forward for the series as Assassin's Creed 2 was to the original. But it's also surprisingly anarchic, shot though with anti-establishment sensibilities and a sense of very real paranoia around the way our data is being wickedly manipulated in the modern world. Watch Dogs 2 is a blast to play, but it also wants you to get angry.

Titanfall 2 Review In Progress

In this review in progress we're looking at Titanfall 2's single-player campaign, which is centered on an unlikely duo and unfolds through supercharged if straightforward shooting and imaginative platforming. Multiplayer impressions will follow when the servers turn on this week and I've had time to put some hours into them.

In addition, the chances of encountering spooky Pokemon has been increased. The likes of Gastly, Haunter, Gengar, Golbat and Hypno will be seen more often. And, in a move sure to be pleasing to no one (at least in the infested UK), so will Zubat and Drowzee.

really plays an epoch making role in the console gaming history." The publisher sees a great opportunity to now expand the series to a larger audience who "may be surprised to the sheer breadth of the universe, in terms of variety and depth."
