Hands-On With The Elder Scrolls: Legends

As someone with more than 1000 Hearthstone games under my belt, there's no mistaking where developer Dire Wolf Digital is drawing its inspiration from for The Elder Scrolls: Legends. Many of the connections are obvious, like gaining one Mana (excuse me - Magicka) per turn, or the visceral way the creature cards bark out dialogue and smash into one another. But some of that Hearthstone feeling is a little more subtle, like the attacker getting to choose where to attack, unlike Magic: The Gathering, which lets a defender call their defense.

It's amazing that card game makers haven't yet exhausted the thesaurus coming up with the keywords that describe each card's special powers and properties. The words might be different in Legends, but any card game player will be familiar with their meaning. "Guard" functions like Hearthstone's Taunt - any attacking creature has to take it out first before attacking their opponent's face. "Breaththrough" functions like Magic's Trample - extra creature damage spills over onto opponents directly. Lethal is Poison. Cards with Regenerate and Charge can… you get the idea.
