As of this writing I'm around 10 hours into my first game of the final version of Civilization VI, and I've completed a full standard-length game with a near-final preview version. Obviously, that's nowhere near enough time to review a Civ game – especially this one – and I'll continue to play for another week or so before I finish this review. But, since its release is imminent depending on where you are around the world, here's what I think of it so far.
In short: Firaxis has made what certainly appear to be some bold and very smart improvements to the ideas that were introduced in Civilization V and its expansions, plus introduced some elaborate new systems of its own in its deep city-building, transparent diplomacy, and flexible custom governments.
