Football Manager 2020 will be released physically using entirely eco-friendly packaging, with all of it recyclable in some way - a first for the industry according to developer Sports Interactive.
Announced by studio director Miles Jacobson in a YouTube video about climate change, the packaging consists of recyclable shrinkwrap, recycled cardboard packaging and a recycled paper manual. It's all printed with vegetable-based ink - "so if you do want to eat the packaging," explains Jacobson, "it's vegan".
The discs themselves can't be dropped in normal recycling bins, but Sports Interactive will provide addresses for where they can be sent to be recycled. The fact that so much of this is paper-based rather than plastic-based also means less fuel should be used when transporting the cases themselves.
