Injustice 2 Patch Fixes Issues Caused by Prior Patch

NetherRealm has released a new patch for Injustice 2 that fixes the issues introduced by the recently released version 1.10 update.

In a post on Twitter, NetherRealm confirmed "a patch is now available for both PlayStation and Xbox users to address the deletion of Gear."

Many users who updated to the 1.10 patch a few days ago discovered missing items from their save files. NetherRealm acknowledged the issue several days ago in a post on the WB Games support website, recommending that those experiencing issue try and reboot the game to recover any Gear earned before September 25.

What Is and Isn't in FIFA 18 on Nintendo Switch

FIFA 18 marks the long-running soccer franchise's return to Nintendo systems after an absence since 2014. But the return of EA's series, now on the NIntendo Switch, isn't without its drawbacks.

EA has previously disclosed that FIFA 18 wouldn't be feature-complete when compared to the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game, as well as that it's not running on EA's internal Frostbite engine. With the game now out, and headlining one of Switch's most-packed release weeks yet, we have a clearer picture of what is — and what isn't — included in the Switch version of FIFA 18, as well as some explanation from previous EA interviews about these features' respective absences.

The Legend of Zelda DLC for Monster Hunter Stories is Really Cool

The Legend of Zelda DLC for Monster Hunter Stories released September 28 entirely for free, and it includes some very beautiful, super neat stuff. The Zelda pack comes with Link's iconic tunic and sword, a Majora's Mask outfit for the cute feline sidekick, Navirou, and even Epona as a welcome partner.

Majora's Mask, called the Cursed Mask in Monster Hunter Stories, even alters Navirou's voice into an echoey, creepy version of itself reminiscent of Skull Kid's off-putting laughs in The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask.

Forza Motorsport 7 Review in Progress

My first day and a half with Forza Motorsport 7 was spent doing much the same as I've done with every previous instalment: attempting to move through the solo campaign while allowing myself to become occasionally distracted by experimenting with interesting new car and track combos (and with more cars and tracks than ever, there are plenty of those). Overall, it's a fairly familiar experience thus far, and one that hasn't deviated much from the time-tested loop established by genre kingpin Gran Turismo back in 1997. Beating opponents, winning credits, and injecting those credits back into the next race by buying better parts and collecting new cars are again the core concerns. In other words, I can confirm that this is definitely a Forza Motorsport game.

iPhone 8 Review

If it appears as though Apple is no longer trying to surprise and excite us with its annual iPhone revisions… it's because it's not. Now that the main iPhone has become the standard smartphone rather than a luxury item, Apple has reserved its real ambition for the upcoming iPhone X and its edge-to-edge screen. That leaves the iPhone 8 as an incremental upgrade over the iPhone 7, which was itself an incremental upgrade over the iPhone 6s, and the 6 before that.

The fact that you could easily mistake the iPhone 8 for its three-generation-old ancestor at a glance doesn't mean it isn't a great phone, because it absolutely is. By nearly every measure it's the most powerful phone out there, and it matches or beats most of its competition with a high-quality camera (by smartphone standards) and a pocket full of excellent features. What it lacks in razzle-dazzle, it makes up for in high-quality construction and tested dependability.

Hob Review

Hob reminds me of why we should never let the cruelty of the world prevent us from appreciating its beauty. It illustrates this lesson forcefully just moments in, when the androgynous hero suffers an infection that quickly leads to an amputation, all for the crime of being distracted by a graceful giraffe-like creature and the stunning landscape surrounding them. A robotic golem comes to the rescue, gifting the hero its own arm, which includes a fist even Hellboy could appreciate.

And does our hero sit around moping, having learned the world sometimes punishes the gentle-hearted? Not at all. They jump back into action almost immediately, using the new arm to punch, grapple, and warp the problems of the world into submission. That's kind of the story of my experience with Hob as a whole, as it kept drawing me back even though it occasionally treated me unfairly and left me confused.

Mario Was Originally Punching Yoshi in The Head

In the original Super Mario World, it has been confirmed that the animation used when Yoshi sticks out his tongue is meant to depict Mario punching him in the head.

An official Nintendo interview (via Kotaku) with Super Mario World developers Takashi Tezuka and Shigefumi Hino revealed details about how Yoshi came to be and elements of his design, including one specific animation.

"Lots of people think that while Mario is pointing his finger forward, he's saying 'Go,' and Yoshi's tongue comes out," Hino said. "However, the set up that I drew was that when Mario punches Yoshi in the head, the character's tongue shoots out in surprise."

Forza 7 Users Experiencing Pre-Load Problems on PC

Microsoft recently enabled pre-loading for Forza Motorsport 7 ahead of the game's launch next week, and many users attempting to pre-load Forza 7 from the Windows Store have experienced a download error, resulting in hours of lost progress.

In an official statement made to US Gamer, a Microsoft representative said Forza developer Turn 10 Studios and Microsoft are looking into the problem. According to their statement they are actively working with the Windows Store team on a fix, but offered no time frame for when the issue might be resolved.

The error causes the game's nearly 100GB download to error out at random and restart from 0. Some users reported getting as far as 60GB into the download before experiencing the error. Depending on your internet speed, that could be hours of lost time. For users with data caps the issue is even greater, deterring them from retrying the download for fear of losing all their monthly data.

18 Games Released on Nintendo Switch This Week

Looking for something to play on the Nintendo Switch this week? Fear not, you have 18 new choices thanks to one of the system's biggest launch weeks yet.

While Nintendo has delivered a steady stream of games via the Switch's eShop since the system launched in March, few have been so dense as this one. While past Nintendo consoles like the Wii U faced criticism for having stretches of time in which nothing new and worthy of playing released, Nintendo is clearly looking to prevent that issue on the Switch.

Thanks to the abundance of announcements of Nindies, third-party games, which Nintendo has clearly been aiming to acquire, and more, the Switch's library continues to expand. Of course, that means not every game may be a must-play for the week, but there are a variety of genres and art styles represented with this week's lineup.

Telltale Games: Switch a 'Perfect Match' for the Studio

If recent comments from Telltale Games are any indication, Switch owners can expect plenty of support from the adventure game developer for Nintendo's console in the future.

"Nintendo Switch is a perfect match for Telltale," creative communications head Job Stauffer told MCV at Gamescom. According to Stauffer, "no series is out of the question" for a Switch port, and the studio is "looking backwards and forwards" in their portfolio when considering what to bring to the platform.

"To say we're steering away from other content because the audience isn't there isn't true," he explained. Red Dead Redemption 2 Story Details, New Protagonist Revealed

Rockstar has released a new trailer for Red Dead Redemption 2. It reveals the first official details about the game's story, which will be a prequel, and star a new character, Arthur Morgan - not John Marston.

Rockstar describes the game as "the story of outlaw Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang as they rob, fight and steal their way across the vast and rugged heart of America in order to survive."

The Van der Linde gang is also known as Dutch's Gang, which the last game's protagonist, John Marston would eventually join (and leave).

Leaks last year suggested the game would be a prequel, set to the east of the first game's location (including a version of the fictional city of New Bordeaux, the setting of Mafia 3). Both of those facts seem to be true, given Dutch's younger appearance in the trailer, and the description of the "heart of America" as a setting.

Star Fox 2 Review

I was mesmerized by the pastel polygons of Star Fox 2. While abstract ships swirled in a stop-motion dance in front of me, I kept thinking this was one of the most beautiful games I've played all year. But where I saw art, others who stopped by to check out Star Fox 2 just saw a blur of awkwardly rotating triangles at about 10 frames a second. Setting aside my appreciation for game history and nostalgia, Star Fox 2 is kind of a hot mess.

Star Fox 2's primitive 3D is so jarringly bad that Nintendo actually canceled it in 1995 before it came out because it didn't look good alongside the groundbreaking 3D of the Nintendo 64. Its space battles, assembled from a handful of untextured polygons, barely run on the SNES hardware, or even on its new, exclusive home in the SNES Classic Edition. (Read our full SNES Classic Edition review.) But if you can stomach the terrible frame rate, it is playable – enough that I could beat it on Hard. Sometimes, it's even enjoyable.

SNES Classic Edition Review

Booting up Donkey Kong Country on the Super NES Classic instantly threw me back to playing the platformer for the first time, and I found myself, though I knew where every hidden "KONG" letter was, having just as much fun as I did years ago. That was true of not just Donkey Kong Country in my time with the Super NES Classic, but of the vast majority of the system's 21 games from the '90s. There are easier and cheaper ways to play some of the greatest games of the 16-bit era, but none that feels so authentically right as Nintendo's new adorable, nostalgic console.

Nintendo has opted for quality over quantity with the SNES Classic's library, which bundles just 21 games compared to the NES Classic's 30. Most are amazing to play even today: a dozen genre- or franchise-defining headliners, including a handful of lengthy and still engaging RPGs represent hundreds of hours worth of some of the finest games of the 16-bit era.

Game of Thrones' Jon Snow and Ygritte Actors To Marry

If you're very behind on Game of Thrones, this article will include spoilers.

Kit Harington and Rose Leslie - who played on-off-extremely off couple, Jon Snow and Ygritte in Game of Thrones - have announced that they're engaged to be married.

The couple - who began dating on-set for the show's second season in 2012 - made the announcement through The Times newspaper.

It's a happier ending for the couple than for their show counterparts, whose relationship was tragically cut short by a fatal arrow, and a subsequent funeral pyre. That'll do it.

Harington will return as Jon Snow in Game of Thrones' eighth and final series, while Rose Leslie has most recently starred in The Good Wife spin-off, The Good Fight.

"The Vita experience was that outside of Japan and Asia, there was not a huge demand," House continued. "The lifestyle shift toward the dominance of smartphones as the single key device that is always with you, was the determining factor."

Wolfenstein 2’s Talking is Better Than Its Robot-Dog Riding

Before I started playing Wolfenstein 2, I was told I would get to pilot a giant, mechanical, fire-breathing dog. As you might expect, that's pretty much the main part I was looking forward to as I shot Nazis and charged through crumbling walls. But what I didn't expect is that the sequel's cutscenes would blow me away more than melting my enemies.

Picking up the top-notch storytelling and character development of the first game, the cutscenes I saw from Wolfenstein 2 were even more impressive. The way each scene was filmed and cut together made them feel more like clips from some new Netflix show than mere exposition in a videogame.

Ruiner Review

A funny thing happened after I beat Ruiner: I started having fun. My first playthrough was exhaustingly difficult. I don't mind a challenge, but I also don't want to feel like I'm banging my head against a wall for 10 hours, unsure of what I'm doing wrong. However, retreading the 14 levels of cyberpunk brutality as the fully powered-up version of my twin-stick killer finally let me enjoy the frantic, stylish combat.

Revenge stories tend to be pretty straightforward, and Ruiner's is no exception. You're a man with VCR text for a face, being told by a mysterious woman in your head that you have to kill a bunch of people who kidnapped your brother. It's pulling from common cyberpunk material like Blade Runner, Akira, Ghost in the Shell, and Escape from New York to tell a bloody tale full of technological horror, and it mixes in some pretty cool, disturbing characters. Menacing techno with industrial beats suit the violent, dirty world of Ruiner well. (Look for the soundtrack to be featured on your favorite Tumblr synthwave blog.)

Infamous Started as a 'Superhero Version of Animal Crossing'

Sucker Punch has revealed that the popular superhero action game Infamous was originally slated to be more akin to an Animal Crossing game.

In a PlayStation Blog post, the company looks back on 20 years of development starting with their first title on Nintendo 64, Rocket Robot on Wheels. While not very successful this lead the team to make the Sly Raccoon games and eventually brought them to Infamous.

Chris Zimmerman, one of the Co-Founders of Sucker Punch, explains that originally Infamous was going to be a lot more like Animal Crossing.

"At first, we were building a superhero version of Animal Crossing. You roamed your city, tracked down criminals, helped out the citizens, and did some light zoning work along the way. The best superheroes have alter egos, right? So your alter ego was a property developer, deciding where to put the pet shops and tiki bars the citizens were demanding. Sounds awesome, right? Well, it wasn't. After six months of experimentation we gave up on property development and focused on superhero action."

Team Fortress 2 Female Character Concept Designs Revealed

A Valve concept artist has shown off his pitched designs for female versions of the Team Fortress 2 line-up.

Drew Wolf showed off the many images on his website, saying they were part of "an internal pitch project aimed to bring female characters to the cast of Team Fortress 2."

Going by the pictures (below), these characters would have been female reskins of the existing TF2 classes, not entirely new additions.

Wolf's description continues: "I was responsible for story, character development and visual design. With the exception of their class function, It was important that each design presented an entirely new character. I wanted these characters to live on their own and add dimension to the current roster of in-game characters. The goal of the project was to dive deep into possibilities and facilitate creative discussion."

Total War: Warhammer 2 Review

As a series, Total War tends to give its best when building on an already established foundation. Napoleon surpassed Empire, Attila surpassed Rome 2. And so, in faithful fashion, has Total War: Warhammer 2 pushed beyond the original Total War Warhammer, creating the most fleshed-out and engrossing campaign this veteran strategy and tactics series has offered to date.

The standard trappings are all present in top form. A sprawling campaign map that's possibly the best-looking one Creative Assembly's artists have ever put together. Real-time battles with reasonably competent AI (not always a given for Total War) who seem to know how to play to each army's strengths and weaknesses – if only in a pre-set, somewhat predictable way. You build cities and research tech to unlock new units and improve your economy and fighting capacity, with each of the new factions having a fairly innovative way of doing so.

The Cathartic Intensity of Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice

You can feel it. A stranger. An imposter in your own body.

Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice opens to our Celtic warrior protagonist Senua riding a canoe to the Norse mythology's land of the dead, Hellheim. A chorus of voices echo through your headphones, warning you to return from where you came. "You're moving towards your death," one whispers. "Turn back, it's too much," says another. "You're too weak, you're going to die."

Senua looks straight ahead towards what's hidden beneath the fog and you continue to go further into the canal, only able to slightly move the camera left and right as if solely with your eyes. Opening credits and crucified corpses planted in the sand around you fade away as you arrive at Hellheim's shores. Stepping onto the ground, you push the boat away, preparing for the journey ahead. "You don't have to do this," a voice says. "You can still turn back."

Danganronpa V3 Review

Danganronpa is a series that doesn't look like much on the surface, but once you start playing, it's easy to get sucked into the weird character drama and the lengthy, winding twists and turns of their despair-inducing adventures. The newest installment, Danganronpa V3, doesn't change too much from the previous two: it's still an anime and pop-art-fueled hybrid of adventure game, murder mystery, and courtroom drama. But sometimes, more of the same is a good thing – especially when it's done this well.

For the third time, a fresh batch of uniquely gifted students have been trapped in a prison-like high school by bloodthirsty bear mascot Monokuma (this time with his equally evil cubs) and forced to participate in a "killing game" to murder each other. Danganronpa V3's gameplay is split into three parts: daily school life, investigations, and class trials. The relatively quiet gameplay, classmate interactions, and exploration of daily life makes an effective story contrast with the murderous horrors and grisly investigations that follow it, though first-person wandering in the samey-looking school halls, even with new areas opening each chapter, got really old, really fast. The highlights that make it worthwhile are the story development and the "free time" sequences in which you can have conversations with and grow closer to particular classmates. Not only is it a real delight to learn more about these deep characters, but you can also earn rewards (like special perks during Class Trials) for doing so.

SNES Classic Wireless Controller Coming From Nyko

Nyko is making a wireless controller for SNES Classic Edition.

Called the Super Miniboss, the wireless controller looks like a traditional Super Nintendo pad but comes with an additional turbo button. It serves a dual purpose: faster input as well as home screen functionality when the button's pushed and then pressing select.

The wireless controller can work up to 20 feet away, according to Nyko. The Super Miniboss has an internal battery, which is rechargeable through a micro-USB port.

Pre-orders are available for the Super Miniboss now at GameStop and Nyko (eventually Amazon too). The wireless controller costs $20 and will start shipping around SNES Classic's launch on September 29.

Rare Doesn't Want to Return to Old Franchises

Returning to old franchises would be "the worst thing for Rare to do," according to studio head Craig Duncan.

In an interview with DK Vine, Duncan explained that Rare is not interested in revisiting some of its old franchises, like Banjo-Kazooie and Conker, as he doesn't believe it's fine to "just go make the same game that people loved before but with up-to-date graphics."

Duncan added that the team is interested making new games that "only Rare would go do," like Sea of Thieves.

"I think unless you've got an absolutely killer, amazing idea for how you would bring maybe an existing IP or maybe one of those franchises and do something new with it from a gameplay paradigm or scenario or something that could actually be genuinely different and innovative, I don't think you just re-do them," said Duncan.

Destiny 2: Bungie Explains New Faction Rally Event

Destiny 2 is getting a new special event called Faction Rally next week.

As detailed on Bungie's blog post, the event will let you pledge your allegiance to one of three factions from the first game: Dead Orbit, Future War Cult, or New Monarchy. Players will then have a week to support them by completing various different activities and earning XP.

By helping your faction out, you'll be rewarded with faction tokens you can use to unlock packages full of loot. The most popular faction by the end of the week will also unlock a special powerful weapon at a discount price of 1,000 Glimmer.

Players in the losing faction will still be able to buy the weapon, but only for the higher cost of 50,000 Glimmer. The weapons in questions are the Dead Orbit Scout Rifle, The Future War Cult Pulse Rifle, and the New Monarchy Sidearm.

Monster Hunter World Is Delightfully Complex yet Accessible

Monster Hunter games have been on my backlog for far too long. The time of Monster Hunter Generations came and went, and it became yet another game on my ever-growing list. Then came E3 2017, and Capcom debuted the gorgeous Monster Hunter World announcement trailer. Now that I've gotten some time with it at Tokyo Game Show, I'm confident that this is going to be the Monster Hunter that finally gets me into the series.

Stressing that I was new to Monster Hunter, a helpful Capcom representative helped me find a weapon to suit my play style and skill level. A majority of the games I've played at TGS have been understandably in Japanese, but even in English the Monster Hunter World equipment menu was intimidating at first glance. I was happy to find that the menus were designed with teaching in mind as each weapon has an instructional preview video.

Bluehole, the development studio behind PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, has said it is "concerned" by how similar Fortnite's recently announced Battle Royale mode is to its game, and is contemplating "further action".

In a press release, Bluehole vice president Chang Han Kim explained the connection between his company and Fortnite's developer, Epic, as well as his issue with the extremely similar mode:

"We've had an ongoing relationship with Epic Games throughout PUBG's development as they are the creators of UE4, the engine we licensed for the game. After listening to the growing feedback from our community and reviewing the gameplay for ourselves, we are concerned that Fortnite may be replicating the experience for which PUBG is known.

Picross S for Nintendo Switch Announced

Nintendo's long-running puzzle series is making its way to the Nintendo Switch with Picross S — and you won't have to wait long to play it.

Developer Jupiter has announced, via Eurogamer, that Picross S will be released for the Switch on September 28 for $7.99.

The latest iteration of the puzzle series will include 300 puzzles and a local co-op mode.

Picross is a grid-based puzzle game in which players fill in the grid based on numbers along the sides of each grid. Those numbers are clues to how many squares in each row or column need to be filled in, but not which specifically — players must use the numbers given to determine what those squares are.

Divinity: Original Sin 2 Review

Some rats won't listen to reason. Just the other day, I met one at the top of a flight of stairs who asked me if the zombie-like creatures crucified below us were any danger to him, and I assured him they most certainly were. But the punk got it in his little rodent brain that I was lying for my own gain, so he tried to charge past them to the wharf beyond… and got fried by lightning that the husks vomited from their mouths. Toldja, little guy. I'd always figured being able to talk to animals would open doors to deep wisdom, but if similar interactions in Divinity: Original Sin 2 prove anything, they're just as foolish as we are.

Moments like these are a big part of the reason why I love Larian Studios' new adventure so much. It's one of the finest RPGs of any variety in years, especially if you're a fan of the old turn-based, isometric Baldur's Gate model that defined the genre in the early '90s. But inspired imitation isn't the chief goal here, as in the somewhat similar (and also excellent) Pillars of Eternity from Obsidian. Divinity: Original Sin 2 is a masterwork that radiates excellence in every aspect, whether we're talking about its broad commitment to character choice and rewarding combat or the little interactions, like my chat with the rat, that make its fantasy world feel both properly "fantastic" and believable.
