Two weeks after its splashy debut at Sony's E3 press conference, Capcom's Resident Evil 7: The Beginning Hour still has secrets.
The Beginning Hour exists somewhere between the franchise's adventure game-style puzzle solving and the claustrophobic first-person horror of Konami's P.T., a demo for the now-cancelled Silent Hills. Like P.T., The Beginning Hour is meant as a tonal representation of the game it's teasing rather than a mirror of what the finished product will look like. It's also just as stubborn and obscure as P.T. — a house full of questions, but no answers, subtle clues that lead players on a hunt for solutions that may not even exist, and a handful of items with seemingly no purpose.
