PlayStation 3 Was a ‘Nightmare’ Says Gran Turismo Creator

Polyphony Digital CEO and Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi has conceded the PlayStation 3-era was a "nightmare" for the Polyphony team. Yamauchi has also noted the conditions for Gran Turismo 6 – which was released after the arrival of the PS4 and sold considerably fewer copies than Gran Turismo 5 – were particularly tricky.

"We always have the pressure that we have to sell numbers," Yamauchi told IGN when asked whether the dip in sales from GT5 to GT6 adds extra pressure or scrutiny to the upcoming Gran Turismo Sport.

"At the same time, the conditions for GT6 were really against us, mainly because the PlayStation 3 hardware was a very difficult piece of hardware to develop for, and it caused our development team a lot of stress.

We Spent a Week with Pokemon Go

Pokemon Go, the augmented reality game that's coming to smartphones, sets up some awesome possibilities if you've ever been a fan of the series: Imagine walking home and discovering a Pikachu or a Snorlax hiding right in your neighborhood. Prior to this, each chapter of the series focused on catching Pokemon in a specific region. This mobile game lets you catch them all over the real world.

This massive project combines the talent of Nintendo, The Pokemon Company, and Ingress-developer Niantic, and changes the rules of Game Freak's mainline RPGs series for a smartphone audience. We gave you our brief impressions based on 30 minutes with the game. IGN got access to the closed beta, so we assembled an awesome elite foursome to spend a week catching and collecting Pokemon. Read on as Andrew Goldfarb, Kallie Plagge, Miranda Sanchez, and Jose Otero share their experiences in the Pokemon Go Field Test.

Capcom Responds to Lingering RE 7 Demo Questions

Resident Evil 7: The Beginning Hour, a demo for the upcoming Resident Evil 7 Biohazard that was revealed at E3, has offered players plenty of questions and mysteries, leaving the community around it wondering if it's actually possible to solve the demo's main goal of escaping the house alive.

"We hope fans are enjoying the demo and discovering all it has to offer. While we can't confirm any specifics about the demo, the team is definitely keeping an eye on all the feedback," a representative for Capcom said in response to whether it is possible to leave the house alive and, essentially, find the demo's "real" ending.

Capcom Shows Off Rejected Street Fighter 5 Characters

Capcom has revealed a selection of rejected character designs for Street Fighter V. They get pretty odd.

Shown off on Capcom Fighters Network, director Takayuki Nakayama shows off sketches for eight characters and explains parts of their backstory or reasons they were cut.

They include the Fighting Literary Master ("constantly grumbles to himself), the Fighting President (a popular suggestion - he was in the planning for Street Fighter IV, too), Miss Babo (an alternate design for Laura), Soccer Fighter ("way too similar to Roberto from Rival Schools"), Gen's Disciple (taking over from the now-ill original SF character), The Teacher (a less evil design for F.A.N.G.) and a prototype Shadaloo Soldier that took inspiration from Alien vs. Predator.

Twitch Launches a Social Eating Category

You've probably seen your favorite Twitch streamers eating food before, but now they can do it officially in a new Social Eating category.

The Social Eating category has been rolled out without much fanfare, but a handful of streamers have begun broadcasting on it.

The "muk-bang" originated in South Korea, a trend where streamers will broadcast themselves eating lots of food while talking with the audience.

Last year Twitch launched the Creative category, and there was a huge Bob Ross marathon to celebrate. It features non-gaming streams, such as music composing, video editing, painting, and more.

The Assembly Brings Point and Click Adventure to VR

We still don't really know what a VR game 'should' be - since the technology is so new, there's no standard for what kind of game should exist on VR, and what might remain better without. I feel like every experience is enhanced by VR, but I never expected a 90s-style Point and Click Adventure to make the jump to Oculus and Vive, and even PSVR when it releases later this year.

The Assembly is a narrative-driven, interactive story that takes you through the struggle of two characters on opposite sides of the 'Assembly' - an organisation rife with mystery and secrets that you'll slowly uncover as you venture through its seemingly enormous, hospital-like complex. One of the two characters is a scientist, named Cal, who has begun to oppose one of the company's practices - the depth of their lack of morals wasn't completely evident after my 2 hours playing the game, but the systems were pretty clear. The information I needed to find was hidden in filing cabinets, email inboxes, in laboratories, behind locked doors with missing key-codes and, sometimes, even on the other end of a phone-call.

Gran Turismo Sport: New Model, Original Parts

With over 75 million copies sold the Gran Turismo franchise remains the highest-selling series in Sony's stable, and yet its presence at E3 this year was relatively understated. Gran Turismo Sport occupied a moderate slice of floorspace at Sony's booth but it only snared a few seconds of airtime during Sony's highly-praised press conference.

Nudged from Sony's own spotlight, and facing more competition than ever before, GT Sport represents an extremely important game for the idiosyncratic series. According to franchise overlord Kazunori Yamauchi, GT Sport offers a level of innovation not seen since the original Gran Turismo, and it has reportedly been stripped and rebuilt from scratch for its PS4 debut.

Zero Time Dilemma Review

A man is strapped to a chair with a revolver pointed to his head. Three of the six rounds are live, but there is no telling which will fire next. Refuse to pull the trigger and the nearby incinerator is set ablaze with a woman inside. What do you choose? Decisions like this are at the heart of Zero Time Dilemma, the fitting conclusion to the Zero Escape trilogy that brings the inventive puzzles and stellar storytelling to a fulfilling end.

Longtime fans of the series know what to expect from a Zero Escape game: what looks like a simple puzzle and visual novel game soon turns into a complex story featuring mind-boggling concepts like telepathic communication and alternate realities. This time around, nine participants of a Mars test colony are kidnapped by a mysterious figure known as Zero and forced to play the Decision Game. Six of the nine characters must die in order for anyone to escape the facility, and this kind of pressure pushed relationships, trust, and compassion to the forefront and had me invested in the characters and their situations. Your progression through Zero Time Dilemma follows a repeated formula known as a Fragment, consisting of a cutscene between characters first, then an Escape the Room segment, and finally a decision that will split the timeline you are currently pursuing.

Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Review

Imagine someone pouring pop rocks into a soda can, shaking it up as hard as they can, then digitizing the explosive results. That's Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE: a zany, effervescent blend of beloved JRPG series Fire Emblem and Shin Megami Tensei that lacks story depth but puts on a good show.

Tokyo Mirage unapologetically embraces the goofier side of the Japanese entertainment industry by squeezing out every bit of silliness it can find and then dialing it up to 11. Throughout the nearly 60 hours of gameplay I was treated to a parade of razzle-dazzle vignettes that include flashy music videos, a snicker-inducing commercial where a girl rides a wave of nuclear-colored soda, and a goofy reenactment of a costume hero show. Usually all at once, since these over-the-top animations are part of Tokyo Mirage's enormously fun combat.

Zelda: Breath of the Wild Needs to Pass 2 Million in Sales

A couple of interesting new facts on The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild have sprung up at Nintendo's recent shareholder's meeting.

As translated by Twitter user Cheesemeister, Shigeru Miyamoto revealed over 100 staff worked on Breath of the Wild, while the game has over 300 people in its credits who worked on it over 5 years.

"The costs

Miyamoto also revealed that the company is currently "researching" VR, and offered a reason why there was no NX at E3 this year.

LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens Review

The Force Awakens must be magic. First it reinvigorated Star Wars after a string of duds, and now it's given the slumping LEGO games the same shot in the arm. LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens is the most creative, well-paced, and fun LEGO game in years. Developer Traveler's Tales always displays a keen love and affection for its source material, but with this take on the most recent Star Wars movie, it tells an entertaining story that pays wonderful tribute to Episode VII through a slew of smart puzzles and unique characters.

Unlike the disjointed storytelling in the disappointing LEGO Marvel's Avengers, The Force Awakens uses dialogue from the film effectively. The story of Rey, Finn, and company follows the same path as the movie, while also throwing in a bunch of really clever gags and goofs. Wandering through the ruins of Maz Kanada's castle, overhearing some weird creatures talk about where they're going to drink next, and having one of them suggest his old watering hole on Tatooine left a big dumb grin on my face.

Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness Review

The key moment of Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness happens about an hour in, when a hulking spaceship roars out of the skies and crashes near a spot where the world's fantasy-themed locals are hacking at each other with slabs of steel. It's a powerful, Columbus-style moment; a clash of technology and world views. It's also an unfortunate metaphor for Integrity and Faithlessness itself, as virtually every good idea this uncharacteristically brief JRPG brings up finds itself clashing with the complications of a poorer one. Sadly for those of us who've held out hope in the seven years since Star Ocean: The Last Hope, it's a struggle that never really resolves itself.

Resident Evil 7's Demo Still Has Unsolved Mysteries

The Beginning Hour exists somewhere between the franchise's adventure game-style puzzle solving and the claustrophobic first-person horror of Konami's P.T., a demo for the now-cancelled Silent Hills. Like P.T., The Beginning Hour is meant as a tonal representation of the game it's teasing rather than a mirror of what the finished product will look like. It's also just as stubborn and obscure as P.T. — a house full of questions, but no answers, subtle clues that lead players on a hunt for solutions that may not even exist, and a handful of items with seemingly no purpose.

Inside Review

The first 10 minutes of Inside, the long-awaited Limbo follow-up from developer Playdead, swing between being beautiful, haunting, and terrifying. Sometimes it is all three at the exact same time. From there, it adds intrigue, wonder, and shock on top of those and never lets up. For that reason, it's best if you take my word for it and go in completely blind to discover it for yourself. But if you need to be convinced, keep reading for more on this visually stunning, thought-provoking, and mysterious masterpiece.

Even though it is mechanically a 2D puzzle-platformer, Inside is quite simply one of the most beautiful and subtly detailed games I've ever played. Every frame appears to have been meticulously crafted and polished several times over, from dust particles hovering in smoky air to raindrops splashing down in a bog to golden sunlight beaming onto your unnamed, red-shirted boy avatar through a window. Everything appears to have had an artist's full and undivided attention. I often stopped just to admire my surroundings, taking in the subtly detailed animations, moody lighting, boldly contrasting color palette, and even the eerily unsettling sound design. You can hear the boy breathing hard after he's been running for a while. You can see him stumble after he jumps and sticks a running landing. Gray paints a lot of the scenery, but splashes of color – often red – are used as a bold contrast that draws your eye where the designers want it to go. Camera work is also laudable; the perspective only ever shifts slightly, but from scene to scene you're always in the optimal viewing position for what's happening on screen, and there's always a visual reward anytime the camera moves closer in, pulls further out, or changes angle.

According to Gametrics (via Polygon), more than 30 percent of gamers in the country's PC bangs (internet cafes) are jumping on to play Blizzard's new MOBA.

Its popularity is pushing Korean favourite League of Legends down to 27.8 percent, toppling it from the top spot it has occupied since August 2012.

Bangs are a huge part of Korean gaming culture - a trend that goes hand in hand with Overwatch's developer, Blizzard, whose 1998 RTS Starcraft became an unprecedented hit in the country. 4.5 million of the game's 9.5 million total sales were made in South Korea alone.

Everest VR Shows Me the Potentials of Virtual Tourism

Virtual tourism is one of the most interesting aspects of VR. To visit exotic locales I may never get a chance to explore is something I'm really looking forward to. Everest VR is one of these globetrotting virtual experiences, and given the ethos behind climbing Mount Everest, it's fitting to be one of the first.

Harsh winds pushed against the tents at base camp in the dead of night. It was hard to see past a few tents in front of me, so I kneeled down and made my way into a nearby tent to find a working flashlight. I got up and teleported to my fellow hikers using the controller touchpad. The screen then faded to black... and a scenic overview of the mountain played as an intermission between the demo phases.

Microsoft, Nintendo, GTA Publisher Weigh in on New Consoles

The biggest story leading up to E3 2016, and of the show itself, was the existence of new hardware from Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo that will be released over the course of the next year. As the video game industry shifts to a new business model where consoles will be refreshed at a much faster pace, the Associated Press spoke to Microsoft, GTA publisher Take-Two, and Nintendo for insight on what this means for the future.

At E3 Microsoft unveiled Project Scorpio, a stronger version of the company's Xbox One coming in 2017, alongside the Xbox One S, a redesign of its existing system that adds 4K video output. "We're trying to shift the culture and put the power of when to upgrade in the hands of gamers, as opposed to it being driven by technology or a corporate initiative," said Shannon Loftis, head of publishing at Microsoft Game Studios, told the AP in an interview. "I hope that we don't frustrate gamers. We're responding to them. The feedback we've received is that they want more choices."

IGN's Top 10 FPS Games of All Time

First person shooters have long been a gaming staple, with hundreds of shooters released over the last three decades. Just when the genre seems to run aground, a truly great game comes along revitalizing the space and reminding gamers the reason they love shooters to begin with. This is a collection of those games.

We judged these shooters on a combination of their shooting mechanics, influence, innovation, and refinement. These are IGN's Top Ten FPS games of all time.

The announcement of a Left 4 Dead sequel so soon after the original was initially met with skepticism. But much to the elation of zombie slayers everywhere, Left 4 Dead 2 improved upon every aspect of its critically acclaimed predecessor. The sequel added melee weapons, environment specific infected and cranked the gore up to 11. But in spite of its additions and improvements, its place on this list is secured by the same sublime co-op mechanics that also made the original great. Special infected like the smoker, hunter and charger forced teammates to work together and stay together or risk being left for dead… too. - James Duggan

Activision Almost Bought Rare

Before Microsoft acquired Rare as a first-party developer for the Xbox platform in 2002, there was a bidding war over the former Nintendo developer, and Activision almost came out on top.

"So we put in a bid and then Activision outbid us, and it looked like we were going to lose the deal," Xbox co-creator Ed Fries explained on the latest episode of IGN Unfiltered, which debuts tomorrow.

Thanks to a move by former Xbox head Robbie Bach at the eleventh hour, however, Microsoft was able to secure the studio. "And then at the very last minute Robbie increased our bid and we won the deal. And that was it," Fries said, adding, "Who knows what could have happened with Rare."

The Story of the Cancelled Daredevil Game

Marvel and Sony were once working on a Daredevil game, but after internal problems and alleged drug abuse, the game never saw the light of day.

According to the latest video by Unseen64, the game was set to be a linear brawler for PlayStation 2 and later the Xbox, but the game's scope changed considerably once Sony got involved with developer 5000ft Inc. The plan was to coincide the game's release with the Ben Affleck Daredevil film everyone pretends never existed.

With Sony wanting something more, the developers attempted to make the game more open-world. At one point, much to the dismay of Marvel, Sony decided Daredevil: The Man Without Fear needed to capitalise on the popularity of the - wait for it - Tony Hawk's series, which would see Daredevil exploring the whole of Hell's Kitchen and being able to grind along railings and rooftops.

Overwatch Hero Torbjorn Getting Nerfed on Consoles

Torbjorn's turret damage will be reduced by 30 percent on Xbox One and PlayStation 4, with PC left unchanged. Kaplan expects the update to go live in mid-to-late July, "depending on 1st party certification times."

Aided by a mouse and keyboard, PC players have a better chance of surviving Torbjorn's auto-aiming turret. Some players are suggesting this why Torbjorn will be left untouched on PC—less precise aim on a controller leaves console players at a disadvantage against Torbjorn.

The Surge Is More Than Just "Sci-fi Dark Souls"

The easiest way to explain a new game to someone is to directly compare it to another game they already know. It's "Kirby meets Carmageddon", a "gritty take on Candy Crush" or, in the case of much of what I'd seen and heard about Deck 13's The Surge, "It's Dark Souls with a Sci-Fi twist".

While the developers clearly took several cues from the Souls series - both feature the challenging and strategic melee combat, circuitous open worlds, and environmental storytelling that have become so prevalent in the hardcore action RPG genre lately - that comparison sort of negates all of the work that they've put in to set themselves apart from their contemporaries, too. After watching The Surge in action for myself at E3 last week, I could see that while there was certainly more than a hint of inspiration from the Souls genre, it also has the potential to be more than just "Dark Souls with mechs".

"But every time we make a Zelda, we want to make something new. It's hard to gauge how long that's going to take. And it's also hard to gauge at what point whatever we consider to be new is done."

Fallout 4: Contraptions Workshop DLC Review

Like its close cousin, the Wasteland Workshop DLC, Fallout 4: Contraptions Workshop is centered entirely around the Settlement-building portion of Fallout 4. But unlike Wasteland, the new creation toolbox is stuffed with instruments that are thoughtfully designed to interact with one another in ever more complex and intriguing ways, enticing our inquisitive and puzzle-minded sides with the challenge of creating ever-more-devious constructs.

You can (and probably will) cheat to get the large quantities of raw materials necessary to build your massive machines, because gathering them takes a serious time investment, but the Rube Goldberg-style mechanics they enable are the real fun of Contraptions Workshop. The experience is a lot like fooling around in Minecraft's creative mode, albeit a bit cruder. The powerful new logic circuits and switch arrays allow for some mad-genius antics, and though my brain took a while to grasp their potential, I gradually began my own small experiments. In one modest achievement, I created a swinging control that I could trigger with a gunshot; shooting the target flipped a switch which dropped a ball down a track wooden track and through a basketball hoop switch to activate nearby fireworks.

Deus Ex Mankind Divided: The Unforeseen Consequences of Playing Nonlethally

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided encourages you to play how you want even more so than its predecessor - but don't expect your enemies to pull punches, or your friends to not suffer the consequences.

I've always enjoyed games that give you freedom of choice in how you dispose of your adversaries, and in titles like Thief, Dishonored, and previous iterations of Deus Ex, finding a solution that didn't end in bloodshed always made me feel clever. However, sometimes the line between violence and peace is only separated by what kind of ammo you're packing.

While some situations in Mankind Divided are sure to follow such a path, the Dubai mission I played during a hands-on demo at E3 (shown in the video at the top of the page) last week threw me an unexpected curveball. Adam Jensen's task seemed pretty straightforward: infiltrate a crumbling hotel amidst a sandstorm and neutralize a group of cartel members to ensure they couldn't show up to an arms deal happening nearby, so that the rest of Jensen's task force could apprehend the dealer, with the help of an undercover informant. From there I was free to assassinate, knock out, or straight up sneak past the cartel reinforcements and disable the door leading to the arms deal. It was when the deal went south that I was truly tested.

Uncharted's Nolan North Can't See Mark Wahlberg as Nathan Drake

Nathan Drake actor Nolan North once would have considered playing the video game hero in the Uncharted film. However, by the time it gets going, he thinks he'll be old enough to play Sully.

"I wanted the part, back 10 years ago when I was 34/35 doing this kinda thing, but it's taken forever," North told Daily Star. "People who've seen the script are comparing it to to Indiana Jones and National Treasure, but there's still a lot of work and, truthfully, I think it's got an uphill battle."

He isn't interested in a cameo in the film, either. "I'm not going to be a guy who walks int the camera and says, 'Your drink, Mr. Drake,'" he added. "I don't need that funny 'Where's Waldo?' thing on my CV."

Overwatch Competitive Play to Get Lots of Updates After Launching

Game director Jeff Kaplan has outlined some of the changes coming to Overwatch's Competitive Play thanks to the feedback from the Public Test Region.

The PTR launched earlier this week, giving PC players a chance to try out ranked mode before it comes to the live servers. Kaplan says a lot of changes are planned, and some of them are "not something we can realistically do until our Fall season."

But rather than delay Competitive Mode further, Blizzard will be releasing it with the next content patch using the current ruleset. Big changes will come a few months down the line. "I've mentioned previously that I believe Competitive Play is the type of system that will require a few seasons before we reach the place where we want to be," said Kaplan.

IGN Presents the History of Awesome: 2012

Welcome back to IGN's History of Awesome - a year-long look back at all the coolest and most influential games, movies, TV shows, comic books, toys, and tech that have shaped pop culture, and shaped the lives of an entire generation. Up this week is 2012, the year of Telltale's The Walking Dead, Journey, Borderlands 2, and Dishonored.

Catch up on IGN's History of Awesome:

11 Big Missing Games of E3 2016

While E3 2016 was a week filled with amazing games like Zelda, God of War, and Sea of Thieves. But alongside this wealth of promising experiences were some noticeable absences. Some of which, like CD Projekt Red's Cyberpunk 2077, we knew about before the show. Others came as a complete surprise. Here are 11 of the biggest games that were missing from E3.

After getting a fresh look at Kingdom Hearts 3 at last year's show, its absence in 2016 was noticeable, if not entirely unexpected. The next few months is all about Final Fantasy XV for Square, and they don't want to complicate the message by bringing up their big games of 2017 and beyond. Still, fingers crossed we see Sora and company later this year at TGS or PSX. Oh, and while we're at it, a tease of a Marvel or Star Wars-based level wouldn't hurt, either.

Adventure on Clover Island Pays Homage to Classic Platformers

Skylar & Plux: Adventure on Clover Island is angling to fill a void left by the absence of classic platformers over the past decade, Grip Digital's Petr Ciesarik tells me at E3. Developed by five students from Sweden as part of a student project, Grip Digital took on the game because they saw an opportunity to scratch an itch they -- and they assumed many other gamers -- would have.

"It's the time for us. Platformers are making a comeback," he told me. "We feel that there is a lack of these types of games today. They are missing in the last decade, so we want to come back with these types of games."

The core of Skylar & Plux is simple and straightforward, which is exactly what you want from a game that's intentionally following in the footsteps of Jak and Daxter and Ratchet & Clank. The controls feel familiar as you jump, flip, and slash your way through a colorful world evocative of something you would have found on the Nintendo 64 or PlayStation 2. Even the story is something Ciesarik describes as "classic" to the genre.

Why Miyamoto Didn’t Want to Call Zelda Wii U, NX Open World

At E3 2016 Nintendo showed off 1% of the vast world in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild but, back at an investor meeting in July 2014, Shigeru Miyamoto said he preferred not to call it an "open world" during development. IGN caught up with Nintendo's lauded game designer and asked if could clarify his statement.

"I think within the game industry or the tech industry, there's a tendency to want to name everything," Miyamoto told IGN. "But I think it's important for what we do that we don't want to be dependent or swayed by the technology and what's available now."

Cancelled Star Wars Live-Action Show Had a Sympathetic Emperor

Well here's something you wouldn't expect. While discussing the new God of War, director Cory Barlog has revealed a little detail about the cancelled Star Wars live-action TV show.

Barlog worked briefly on the canned Star Wars: 1313, a game set in the same time period as the long-mooted TV series, which was tentatively titled Star Wars: Underworld, and set between Episodes III and IV.

"When I was working at Lucas," explains Barlog to VentureBeat, "I was allowed to go up to the ranch and read the scripts for the

Star Wars Battlefront May Get Offline Instant Action Mode

Star Wars Battlefront may be getting a much-requested feature, offline Instant Action.

The offline mode was uncovered by Reddit user uninspired_zebra, who posted their findings to both a Reddit thread and a YouTube video, which you can watch below:

As you can see, the video showcases hidden menus that allow players to play Walker Assault and Fighter Squadron offline in a solo session or with a friend.

Although the YouTube video does look convincing, it's important to note that offline Instant Action has yet to be confirmed by EA, so take this news with a grain of salt. We've reached out to the publisher for comment and will update if we hear anything back.

Inafune: 'I Own All the Problems' With Mighty No. 9

Game designer Keiji Inafune has spoken about the reaction to Mighty No. 9, but what everyone thought he said isn't actually the reality.

During a live stream yesterday, there was some confusion when Inafune appeared to say the release of Mighty No. 9 is "better than nothing." However, it has now come to light he said nothing of the sort.

According to Kotaku, former Capcom employee Ben Judd was translating on the stream, and adds his own commentary as well as the translation. The "better than nothing" line was added by Judd.

Shovel Knight Is Getting 2 More Free Campaigns

Yacht Club Games currently has two more campaigns in development, and they'll be released for free.

Last year the first free campaign, Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows, was released. The studio is now working on campaigns for Specter Knight and King Knight too. Specter Knight will be coming first, although the team is working on all upcoming content simultaneously.

Specter Knight's new abilities include a slashing attack, which can also be activated in mid-air for a "Dash Slash." He also has a wall climb, however he can only climb a set distance before falling down again, so you'll need to use abilities in combination to reach new heights.

The newly-announced God of War will be single-player only.

Speaking to LevelUp (as translated by GameTransfers), director Cory Barlog confirmed that the new game would drop the multiplayer mode added in 2013's God of War: Ascension.

We called Ascension's multiplayer "a genuinely fresh addition to the series", but said it lacked the depth to be anything more than a distraction.

Watch Dogs 2 Will Not Feature Map-Unlocking Towers

Watch Dogs 2 won't feature the map-unlocking towers familiar to players of Ubisoft's open world games.

Towers have been an integral part of progression in Assassin's Creed, Far Cry and even The Crew, and the original Watch Dogs used a version of them to allow for exploration around its version of Chicago.

However, speaking to Eurogamer, creative director Jonathan Morin has confirmed that Watch Dogs 2 is making a break from the UbiTemplate: "It's not a game where you open your map and everything's there. There are no towers. You just explore the world."

Our first-look at the game told us that players will instead unlock more and more activities by gaining followers for hacker activists DedSec, earned by completing missions or making discoveries in the open world, but it's now clear that the full map will be available from the beginning, allowing for a new measure of freedom in how you travel around it and what you complete as you do.

Zelda Producer on Voice Acting in Breath of the Wild

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is mixing up the series' formula in several exciting ways, including the addition of voice acting, and producer Eiji Aonuma has come forward to explain why for the first time it's being incorporated into the franchise.

"It's really difficult to leave an impression on players with just text," Aonuma told Polygon, going on to point out that not every piece of dialogue in the game will be voiced. There are, however, specific instances in which he wants to "leave impressions on users" and is using voice acting to achieve that.

Why Bayonetta and God of War Fans Might Love Nier: Automata

What do you do when your planet is overrun by aliens and their murderous robot minions? Escape to the moon, of course.

So explained game designer Takahisa Taura when asked about the conspicuous absence of humans in Nier: Automata during a hands-on demo at E3 last week. Unable to deal with overwhelming odds, most homo sapiens have left the fight for Earth to androids created specifically to take on the extraterrestrials' "bio-machines." It's a fight to the death, and from what I've experienced of Automata's combat so far, it's going to be epic.

During the demo I controlled 2B--one of Automata's main android protagonists--as she took on hordes of mechanical enemies. 2B's bot-destroying arsenal includes a short sword, a great sword, a pair of massive gauntlets (think the Nemean Cestus from God of War), and a companion pod that hovers above her and acts as both a gun turret and temporary zipline. Each of these upgradable battle instruments is assigned a face or shoulder button, making interchanging them a breeze. As I gleefully smashed, slashed, shot, and dodged my way through wave after wave of malicious automatons, I was happily reminded of both the frantic, fluid combat of Bayonetta (hardly surprising given that Platinum Games is involved in both titles), and the cathartic, arcady button-mashing of God of War. There was an immensely satisfying rhythm to demolishing swarms of robots, but that doesn't mean I could just turn off my brain.  Each type of enemy has its own unique properties, and I had stay on my toes and change up tactics if I wanted to stay one step ahead of overwhelming odds.
